Snowdrops at Kingston Lacey

On Wednesday my husband and I visited Kingston Lacey, a National Trust property that is near our home.
(Our Older son gave us NT vouchers last year and we are making the most of them!)

In February people visit to see the Snowdrops and this year with its cold snap seems to have brought out these lovely little flowers en masse.

There were many people who visited as we did but the park is so vast that one can wander almost in solitude and enjoy the white carpets and the other flowers in bloom.

I took lots of images but, although some of the photos aren’t too bad, just like the ones one takes of bluebells, the photos never do justice to the actual plants.

I like the following and, on a whim, sent it to the BBC Weather people. They have replied asking for details regarding copyright etc as they may show it on TV tonight. I say “may” as I am sure there will be lots of other images from which to choose.

Anyway here it is. I hope you like it!

…..and another

and the grand house itself. How the other half lived!

A lot of the trees had the following at their base. Does anyone here know what this procedure is called? And why it is done?

Lovely snowdrops. i know what you mean about photos not doing them justice. I've tried taking some of a local woodland but they were disappointing. Yours are better!

They are beautiful, and in a picturesque place.
You've got the right name too :)

Well they didn't appear on the News Weather programme, Jane, though the image may be on their website. Mustn't be greedy. I have had two shown in the past!

Yes, Hywel, it was my sister's name and she had two friends: Primrose and Heather. Honest! :O)

Steragram. Have looked at photos taken by my husband and they are disappointing. The mini-cyclamens are very pretty though and the aconites.
