(Harvest Festival)

Dear Friend, dear Chrystal Palace,
My shelter from cold wind,
I want your purpose in my life
As coming months begin.

Carrots and Beetroot soldier on,
You deserve flowers too, we agree.
The seed time and the harvest
Are not the end for me.

Potting Dwarf Wallflowers to grow in you,
Little Orange Chrysanthemum looks fine,
Third winter flowering for Ageranthemum
Will make drab months sublime.

All good things are out there,
Just sent from Heaven above,
So hunt them out, yes hunt them out
For your Chrystal Palace – with love.

Diane Bulley Sept.2015.

Lovely fun ! I dont usually buy Winter Flowering Pansies
because they get spoilt by harsh weather. I had put a shallow planter in the bin. Will now fetch it out and get some Pansies when I go to the Garden Centre next week, there is space for it in my Chrystal Palace.

It would be good to have a list of plants that will flower
during the winter in a cold greenhouse, to take to the
garden centre. Not so enjoyable when searching for plants without a list.

I do better with the little viola's......
how about the hardy cyclamen?

I grow nerine too, the guernsey (or jersey) lily
They are just coming into flower.....

The plant pots need frost protection so the roots aren't killed, for a couple of years I had potted osteospermum flowering through the winter until one year the frost got them

Thanks Pam. Will get some Violas, and look for more
Nerines, as mine are in the garden.
I have Hardy Cyclamen outside. Will get some more for the greenhouse aka Crystal Palace.
Am wondering if the Wallflowers will flower earlier if kept in the greenhouse all winter ?
All good fun.

I like your poem Diane, I now grow alpines in my greenhouses and all my succulents are now back inside for the winter, it gives me something to care for in the winter, I remember years ago Spritz did a blog showing some flowers she had in her greenhouse and that was in the wintertime..
