I haven’t been to see John Massey’s garden for a couple of years so decided to go to the open day 25.04.15. As I started walking round it was so tranquil alongside the canal and you could hear the birds it was lovely, I decided if I lived there I would not want to go anywhere else! I saw John Massey and I told him that and he said yes he felt very lucky.

Here are some photos I took, hope you like them, it doesn’t really do it justice but its a glimpse of a beautiful garden.

This is the birch that inspired me to grow one in my garden,

This area is called “The Ruin”

“The Crab Apple Walk – Malus, Sorbus, Prunus, Betula, and Anemone Pavonina Meadow (and Snowdrops)

Hope you enjoyed the “tour”, I have done previous blogs also with different photos, if you are interested. Jane :))

Hi Jane, glad you got to see his garden in April I always seem to miss this opening but have enjoyed the little tour you have given us, hopefully will be going to the one on the 19th July. Your photos are great and it was nice that you were able to speak to the man himself.

Very nice. Love the Rheum and pier in the pond, so nice. Isnt it nice to see an established garden with space around. I planted 6 betula jacquemontii snow queen in the autumn for their lovely white trunks. I like the huge blue pot too with the flowers climbing out.

Lucky you, to live so near! We also made the trip (about two and a half hours drive) a few years ago, and I have said to OH that I would love to go and see John's garden again. Your photos are very good, and brought to live this inspiring place.

I couldn't take my eyes off the lake and surrounding cobbled area, and the head gardener (I think it was him) asked me if I realised why I liked it so much! He told me it looked so good because they had just used THREE different sizes of cobbles . . . I never forgot that. Now I realise that one of the design basics of almost anything in the garden is the number 3 :)
