Trees With Interesting Bark/Trunks

Bark is so often overlooked and a useful way of identifying trees. You have some lovely specimens there Dawn.

These were all beautiful Dawn. I'm glad you included the Arbutus because it has so many great attributes that the bark is often overlooked in the books. But it does have fantastic bark. They are all stunning, so lovely to see them maturing in your lovely garden. :)

What a lovely selection Dawn they are so tactile , I have the Betula utilis Jacquemontii 'Snow Queen' I'll be very pleased if it grows anywhere near as magnificent as yours ,I've planted a red stemmed Cornus ( I can't find its label ) in front of it to compliment the trunk ..

Smashing blog Dawn...lovely barks so interesting, and very beautiful barks. The eucalyptus is so interesting it reminds me of Plane tree barks. My golden birch has a pretty white bark with a peeling papery top layer, I often have a look at it..:))

We very often overlook a tree's bark - although there are some trees that have really spectacular bark. I like these & I seem to remember some of them from the Cambridge Botanical Gardens I visited a couple of times years ago.

Everyone a winner Dawn, all my favourites, we have the Arbutus which has been pruned severely over the last ten years, the prunings go on the log burner, brilliant dense wood, which burns for ages!
Our Eucalyptus doesn’t have an attractive bark, it’s quite plain....

Thanks Dotty. Yes I tracked the eucalyptus down after seeing one in a garden, its spectacular. I better not let my OH know the Strawberry Tree burns well! I lifted the canopy on mine after seeing yours and I was amazed to see the beautiful flawless straight trunk.
Have you ever felt the trunk on a giant redwood, they're spongey :-)

Dawn, my tree is Betula pendula Golden Beauty. Bright lime green leaves in spring and summer and then truly gold in autumn. There's a photo in my picture gallery....I'll have a look to see which page it's on..

They are fantastic Dawn lovely patterns and colours there. I always love looking first at the bark of the trees.
