All my family left home a few years ago, so i live on my own, its nice because you can do what ever you wont, when you wont, but sometimes it can be a lonely life. when your children leave home and have families of there own boys more than girls, they seem to be in there own little nest.

Hi Clarice! I don't have a family, but luckily I have a very large extended family, but as you say, they have their own nests to look after! I hate to hear of people who feel lonely - it is something that I fear. Can I suggest maybe joining a local group of some kind? I don't know your particular interests, but in the past I was a volunteer with my local Wildlife Trust - you can do as little or as much work as your like, you learn a lot, you can volunteer in their offices if you don;t like the idea of laying hedges and scything meadows! And all ages get involved - from teens doing work experiece right up to people in their eighties! Alternatively, what about a local gardening club? My mum goes down to our local church hall Thursday evenings for a coffee evening - they do a talk and a raffle, etc. Hope this helps! Sarah.

Hi clarice - try to think positive! As you say, you can please youself as to what you do and when. I do believe we all need people sometimes, though. So try to build a network of neighbours/ club friends/ GOY members! etc so that you can have a chat when you want to or need to. I found that when we moved here, and because we got Henry as soon as we moved, people talked to me when I took him out. That's how I got to know lots of people in the village. Also, we were asked to deliver the parish magazine. It takes AGES to take them round due to stopping for a natter all round our route....Good for socialising, though. Why not have an 'Open House' coffee morning if you don't know your neighbours?

Hello and welcome!! I was really down when my Mum Dad Bro Sis Uncle cats dogs chickens cows etc all moved up to Scotland and I was left in an empty house! I quickly moved into my building site oops i mean new house but found it really hard at first as I had no base to return to! it took me a while to adjust but I find I appreciate my family so much more now! Oh and in case you didn't already know the people here on GOY are so friendly and I am really lucky that just by accident i stumbled upon them!
