Harrogate Great Yorkshire show cancelled :o(

After yet more torrential rain today, they have decided to cancel the rest of this weeks show, for fears of safety for the public and Exhibitors..All the fields used for car parking, are just like a sea of mud,and lots had to be towed out by tractors etc..just horrendous sights ,and so completely impractical to carry on..ironically ,it is going to be fine on Thursday, but the rest of the week ,more rain to come..and still on amber alert ,here in parts of Yorkshire..
In its many years of existence,it has only happened twice before..once in the 2nd world war,and the foot and mouth outbreak a few years ago….so very sad,but the right thing to do in the circumstances…

Oh bloomer that is a shame, loads of roads near us closed due to flooding and it doesn't seem like it's letting up either:(

Hi Sandra.
What a pity Harrogate is cancelled. Safety a priority.

This summer, I've lost count of the charity dog shows and similar events which have been cancelled or postponed due to waterlogged venues.

Some smaller charities, which rescue dogs, cats etc, are really suffering due to the loss of income, because the shows are usually guaranteed revenue for them.

its a shame sandra and seems alot of shows have been cancelled this year cause of weather, all the hard work they do, its heartbreaking isnt it :o(

It is very sad for everybody trying to make a living, and charities too..all the preparation that goes into it,as well..
We used to go every year,as guests of OH's company..and it really is a wonderful event..I feel sorry for all the animals as much as anything..and most of you will have seen Hebden Bridge and surrounding area being hit yet again yesterday..just tragic...a few plants in my garden pale into insignificance compared to this..I am definitely not going to moan about them, after seeing this lot..no camparison..but to be honest, they aren't doing too bad..so feel very lucky..

yes i feel lucky to sandra, i cant even begin to say i understand cause unless you go through something you cant really know what its like, but my heart goes out to anyone with garden and house dissasters from downpours this year :o(

It's a nightmare hey - all the hard work that goes into planning these events - I heard it was on this morning and wondered if it would go ahead! :0(

Oh, what a disappointment Bloomer, but what can you do eh?

I bet that it is a wonderful show too.

This year is a right off in so many ways and I just keep hoping that for everyone's sake it will get better before too long. If it doesn't we shall all need to buy Vitamin D tablets or emigrate!!

What a shame for you Bloomer. I know how much I look forward to going to the big shows. It does put it all into perspective when you see the aftermath with peoples houses that have been flooded - poor devils.

Oh bl***y h**l what a sorry state of affairs. I'm gutted, not because I was going this year, but because it's a Yorkshire institution that I'm very proud of. All that work that has been put in from the organisers, breeders, farmers and exhibitors. Such a shame, they must feel gutted. Jx

What a shame Sandra you must be so disappoined , I do feel for everyone who has been affected by the rain and flooding, I hope it will come to an end soon, although it will be too late for all those who have had events cancelled;0(
