The garden, today.

What a day! What a week! What a year! One thing you can’t say is our weather is boring. Today was a day for coats as it was so cold, and the wind this afternoon is unreal. I can feel the acer leaves curling without even looking…
Anyway, it is what it is, and we have been outside trying to put pots back onto the patio before we assemble the new patio set. So I thought I would take a few photos as I have been slightly taken by surprise at the sudden new growth despite the (mostly) ghastly weather. The incessant rain seems to have given things their head despite the cold temperatures. Here goes:
A group of acers:
Other side with Christmas tree that I can’t persuade OH to shred! We put it in the front garden every year and decorate it!
A row of smaller acers, kept in the greenhouse over winter.
Camassias in the same border and purple hazel. For some reason I love this shrub.
My newly planted Phoenix canariensis.
Another Phoenix and Chaemerops humilis in pots.
The borders are looking pretty lush, too, so for once there is not much weeding. Here are the cercidiphyllum and viburnum ‘Mariesii’ :
I must admit this year I have felt reluctant about the physical act of gardening but nature doesn’t need us really, does it? If only I could stop spying something out of the corner of my eye that needs doing!

Beautiful Acers Ange, and I love your purple Hazel.

Like you, I think comments are trailing off even among the regulars, Meadow. Glad you like the acers. This about half of their number! As to the winter, we shall see how many survive the summer!

Thanks, Sheila. I saw a fully grown hazel in an open garden and it was an absolute inspiration.

lovely blog Ange. The gardens are certainly galloping on and I am being left behind. I have only sorted 2 complete borders all the others are yet to be tackled.
as for less people on here most sites be it bikes/animals/gardens are suffering the same. Facebook & Instagram and other similar sites are partly to blame.

Ange, I really enjoyed seeing the photos of your plants and garden. It really is heartwarming to see new growth and colour at long last. I'm keen to know if your Rosemary plants survived the wet weather?

Love your Acers, they have such lovely foliage & variety of colour.

Thanks, Sbg. I think familiarity might be the problem..
Yes, it is good to see growth at last, Shirley. However the weather doesn't do much to lift the spirits! Your rosemary is ready for planting now, thank you.
Glad you like, Feverfew. We have too many, really.

I love all your Acers Ange. Do you have room to plant them in your garden or will they stay in pots?
Lots of lovely spring colour there too!

I hope to get a number in the garden, Rose, but that will mean ousting something else!

Oh no! That's a shame!

Glad to hear it ... thanks for letting me know.

Love the 3rd pic, especially, Ange. The colours are fab!!! All look pretty lovely together.
Acers are one plant/tree that seems to thrive here in our little spot. Just wish I'd room for one or two more varieties!
Your garden is looking pretty lush as you say, lots of diversity too.
I'm getting my mojo back- but if the weather changes again to miserable wet and driech, I'll stamp my feet!
Work keeps me busy mind you, lots of new patients!!!!

Thank you, Kate. We are desperately trying to get as much as we can planted out!
I'm sure you don't get chance to get bored but at least what you do is very worthwhile if challenging.
I'm with you on the weather. Another soaking one today..

The colours of your Acers are amazing for this time of year Ange. You must have been speaking kindly to them!

They have been stunning, Sheila. I have been very surprised: much better than in the autumn, actually!

That’s interesting … I’m learning something new … again!

Ange, thank to this blog I was able to identify a shrub as a Viburnum 'Mariesii'. There were many plantings of it last week when we had a few days in Dorset. A beautiful shrub.

Good to see your blog Ange and to hear from you...GOY has been almost on strike!
Love your Acers especially as they are a favourite here. Will you try them outside this winter as they will be more mature?
My enthusiasm comes in fits and starts these days...it does feel uplifting to visit a nursery and see well cared for plants.Next year looks like they will be even more expensive. Anyway, let's enjoy while we can.
