Owl and Pussycat Cottage

Do you remember the photo I posted of the Owl and Pussycat Cottage in the process of having new thatch laid? Well. yesterday the owners there were selling off garden tools and items to raise money for the hedgehog charity that they support…. it is Hedgehog Awareness week, this week May 3rd- 9th.

Anita there takes care of injured and underfed hedgehogs with a view to re-homing them eventually and also rescues unwanted Guinea Pigs…taking great care of their needs until a loving home is found for them. She is looking for a home for Pavlova an elderly hedgehog with an injured foot which she has cared for this past month.

They have a most beautiful garden which I’m sure you will enjoy as much as I did!

A sunny afternoon, we left our village set in a golden haze of Oil Seed.

The thatched cottage had it’s new roof finished and was looking beautiful.

Anita here after a busy time selling garden wares for her charity.

A very attractive corner of the garden by the barn showing the pretty pathways and stone ornaments.

Attractive deep red Rhododendron.

Great for children to see, this chain-saw carving of a Guinea Pig and topiary Teddy provided interest.

Here’s my Ian finding this outsize spade just a little too heavy to handle….Lol

The stepped garden is made of small terraces enclosed by neat box hedging is full of Hostas, Acers and many perennials.

The pig sty here provides a safe haven to two young Hedgehogs Pip and Pop.

Another pretty corner.

A stunning Pieris about 4ft high!

Another carving hiding in the undergrowth……:o)

Sweet animals everywhere…a children’s dream.

Beautiful palm….think it may be a Mediterranean Fan Palm

Topiary pig with I think a curly green tail if you look closely!

Romantic heart.

While we were talking about the hedgehogs, little Albert flew in looking for food for his fledglings.

Seeing the camera, Albert decided to pose…..

Camellias and Acers made up part of the attractive planting.

Hidden corner on a high level showing the Trompe L’Oeil window painted by the local postman!

You can read about Anitas work with the hedgehogs on the site below.

Hi there! I am thrilled to bits to see our cottage and garden on Janey's Blog! I met Jane and Ian for the first time this Sunday and what a lovely couple they are - and what a talent Jane has with the camera (little Albert is so sweet posing - you have really caught his cheeky expression)! And everyone in response has been so complimentary - thank you all so very much!

Thanks for introducing me to this Forum Janey! And I am so pleased you called on Sunday, it was a real pleasure meeting you . . . next time we will have tea and cakes :)

Oh and if anyone can give a good home to some rescue Guinea Pigs . . . . . !

Hello Mildred.....so pleased to meet you and Welcome to GoY. :o)
Your home and gardens are absolutely stunning. I would give a home to some Guinea pigs but I don't think they would appreciate being shipped all the way to British Columbia. LOL.

Hello Mildred!! Pleased you've joined us here on GoY..I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as we do.....probably won't get much gardening done tho!!....Lol Glad you like the blog too.

Hi Gilli, nice to meet you too! And nice to think you would give a home to some lovely piggies if you could . . . you are a bit too far away for me to post them!

And now I AM going gardening, mowing the grass (the boring bit!).

One girl went to mow...went to mow a meadow....:o)

You could always send them by cruise ship Mildred!! They could sit out on deck in their little deck chairs, sipping their little piggie cocktails, watching the ocean.....they'd probably enjoy that. :o)

7 May, 2009

Ooh yes Gilli........little trip to the hair salon, and gym, a manicure for those tiny paws....he..he, I can just see them enjoying synchronised swimming complete with nose pegs Lol! Of course there'll be one who won't join in, only stay laying on her steamer chair with shades and personal cd......

7 May, 2009

There's always one in every crowd Janey. She'll be the one first to the dining room to enjoy the sumptuous fare provided. All dressed in her evening gown (seams straining) and pearls......

Hello! I am just catching up with your Blog Janey! I love the idea of sending the 'girls' on a Piggy Cruise, a second ship would have to follow on filled with veg and salad, they love their food! And they DO go to the Furdressers, and have their little nails manicured, weekly! As for the Gym, I don't think so!

Come again soon Janey - bring some SUN please :)

Thank you for all your nice comments, I am blushing!!!
