Saturday morning walk

I really enjoyed Hywel’s walk round his home area this week that I decided to take the camera the next walk we had. Hoping it was going to be sunny and warm, the reality was cold, windy and grey with a temperature of 11 degrees and a high pollen count…joy of joys!
Near to us are ponds and lakes at the edge of the river Humber and we battled the breeze to get a few snaps.

On the way, we passed this field of wonderful red poppies…brightening up the day.

Arriving at one of the ponds, there were hedgerows of wild dog roses to greet us.

As interested in us as we were in them, these woolly horned brown sheep were grazing on the lush meadow grass.

Though the water was choppy, the young Canada Geese were busy preening themselves ready for Sunday…:o)

Ox-eye daisies amongst the wild flowered banks.

Brown headed knapweed……though it looks purple to me!

Birds-foot trefoil

Common Lungwort

Lychnis alba

A mixture of wild flowers

Brilliant blossoms of white Yarrow.

Time for home and a nice hot cup of tea!

Thanks for the walk & the wild flowers brightening up the countryside! The Poppies are really fabulous - down on the allotment next to ours the guy has left 100's of red Poppies to flower. We also have a few on our allotments, though we haven't got any red ones.

Although the day may have been grey your photos are lovely! :-)

Lovely wild flowers and the sheep are great too.Are the Canadian Geese ready for off now? Wasn't sure ,as don't know much about their migration pattern. We always see them when we go to stay with friends in Mablethorpe, and I love them...

Thanks Jane....pleased you enjoyed it....if only it had been weather like we've had today.....:o)

Poppies are among my favourites too Cristina...they always look so happy. The cottage is nearly done, thanks for asking.....:o) The men have gone and we've just some tidying up bits to do...will post a pic in a few days........

That must be a great view Balc down on your allotment....a splash of red makes everything so much more interesting...Lol!

Hi Bloomer.......I don't think the Canada Geese are big enough yet....some of them still had grey down instead of feathers...I think they've made it their home here, nesting and bringing up their young....and there is a cafe near by......:o)

I enjoyed your walk Janey, lots to see but I wonder how many people walk past without noticing all the things that you photographed. I like the way you said the Dog roses were there to greet you. It's nature at it's best just now even if the sun isn't out, I make a point of being out as much as possible and as early as possible too. On Monday (the longest day) we watched the sun go down from on top of our local hills. It was so peaceful, all to ourselves. It's called Cuckoo Rock and we do it every year, we take chairs, picnic and a bottle....Perfect.

23 Jun, 2010

Thanks Donnah....there are some pretty places nearby....:o)

Pleased you enjoyed it Ron.......it is the best time now isn't it? And we have been so lucky this week....warm sunny days and evening s to sit out (if you're not watching footie or tennis...Lol) I think early morning is the best part of the day, and if you can get out then...there is such a lot to take notice of in the peace and quiet. Watching the sun going down on mid-summer night with a picnic and wine sounds to be a wonderful experience...at one with nature...did you take your camera too? Up here the nights right now stay quite light even at 3 in the morning it still looks like twilight....lets hope the warmth stays with us now....:o)

23 Jun, 2010

So Janey you're a Lark like me, trouble is it's difficult to see the end of the 10pm news lol. I've posted a pic of Cuckoo rock, not very clear but I was on the wrong end of the camera ;-)

24 Jun, 2010

That's true Ron...in my case..probably see the end, but not the two hours before...Lol!......going to have a look at your Cuckoo rock now....:o)

I have just sat down and read your post while having my morning coffee - I felt like I was there with you, Janey! Really lovely! We have had some fantastic fields of poppies this summer and you have captured them perfectly :)

I don't post here often but I DO enjoy reading and seeing photographs!

Maybe we will catch up again at 'Open Garden' on the 11th July!
