It is raining……….. sorry if you dont want it, but it was getting quite serious here, our poor sarracenias depend on rain water and the butt was nearly empty!!!
The garden borders were bone dry, we have been watering every other day with the hose, the bog area was turning into desert, so I say Yipeeeeeeeeeeeee

I like the rain, always have done !
And being a gardener means that it'll always be welcome when it comes, especially after a hot spell :)
The only weather i dislike is the very cold, don't like that at all and wish i could hibernate then !!!

Not quite 7000 miles away like Catfinch, but BOY! did we get some rain! "Stair rods" is not the term - I don't think I've ever seen such heavy rain! It came from the West (probably after sorting out Catfinch's garden!) and thrashed the side of our casa where I have large pots of red pelargonium, lavender and two troughs of petunias on window cills. The poor petunias were shredded, the pelargoniums are a soggy mess and the lavender loved it! The garden was turned into a mud pool, the tomatoes almost turned up their toes and my hostas - planted in the shade of the boiler house where the drain is - were found under 3" of mud!! We also had to deal with rain coming in through the base of the windows because individual bees had put a grub in the window drainage holes and plugged up the hole with pollen and wax so, unfortunately, we had to evict the grubs. Sorry!

We had those stair-rods last evening .... frightening !!!
This morning the temperatures have gone completely haywire.
It's only 7 degrees for goodness sake !!!
What's happening ?? !!!
I've put the heating on here this morning which is so bizarre because within this past week it's been 28 degrees here, i hope it warms up outside soon or it'll stay on all day !!!

Woke up at 4 this am because of the rain, had to put the heating on and dig out the hot water bottles!

I was glad it rained during the night but kept dry yesterday - we had our local 'country fair' and people work so hard to make it a success. A little cloudier today but hopefully the rain will stay away until 5pm when the second day of the fair finishes - I feel another blog coming on :)

seems drier this morning here..marine layer of heavy mist is not about..and as I just now stepped out on my deck to check to see how dry it is..an eagle flew off from the big Douglas Fir by the bluff..the birds are chirping it up and it is not quite all the way sun up yet..there are clouds so will not be a bright sunrise..it was cool enough here yesterday that I had to shut some of the windows but not all..still have some open this morning. No need to turn on heat, thanfully. Will be setting up my sale today around 10 a.m...keep my fingers crossed that it stays nice out..

Has rained here since 10 o'clock yesterday morning! We are also awash with all the water. It is good for the gardens, and my pots! But not so good for those of us who work outdoors. Markets are being cancelled or just no-one about! :(

This time of year is so unpredictable..was a bit taken back by the long warm dry spell we have had lately..that was a nice surpise..but a bit too hot..never happy I guess..lol

~hope the garage sale goes well CJ~We have a dry day here now but my water butt is now 2/3 full and that is only from rain from the greenhouse roof!I don't mind if it is a touch cooler and cloudier as long as it is not windy~hate wind ripping all my plants to bits!
You are right CJ we are never completely happy with our weather but at least it gives us something to talk about!

~ on the way to work there are big drifts of white ox eye daisies~are they the same ones?~they look fantastic en masse!

7 Jun, 2009

No Shasta's are a taller and larger daisy...but they are yellow eyed and white petaled like the ox eye..going to look it up...to be sure..but I think pretty surely they are different...but they do look beautiful in mass.

Sorry to hear about the disasters that have occurred, we had torrential rain overnight, with thunder and lightening.
Expected to see the garden devastated, roses were soggy, went to put in some new plants and the border was still as dry as a bone!!!! the rain had obviously bounced off the ground, what is needed is gentle rain.....please.
