THE WEATHER DID US PROUD, HOT AND SUNNY, IN FACT PERFECT….AND ALTHOUGH MANY OF THE FLOWERS THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE OUT WERE STILL TIGHTLY CLOSED, THERE WAS STILL PLENTY OF COLOUR……..THE PHOTOGRAPHS WERE ALL TAKEN BY FERGUS OUR GRANDSON AGED 10, (WHO ALSO SOLD THE PLANTS AND HELPED ON THE DOOR) BECAUSE I FORGOT TO TAKE ANY!! LOL…….OUR GRANDDAUGHTERS LYDIA AND CATHERINE AND ELDER DAUGHTER EMMA SERVED THE TEAS, SO A FAMILY AFFAIR.!!

EVEN OUR RESIDENT FROG MADE AN APPEARANCE

I THINK FERGUS HAS THE MAKINGS OF A VERY GOOD PHOTOGRAPHER, BUT THEN I AM VERY BIAS!!
The plants that most people were interested in were these, taken today on a very wet Tuesday….

Crinodendron hookerianum.
3 trained Hawthorn Pauls Scarlet (tulip shaped done by OH) much admired.
Clematis Montana Broughton Star.
Clematis Montana Marjorie.
Vinca an upright form…..
We had 100 visitors which was about right, some staying most of the afternoon, we made far too many cakes, so we are all on a cake diet this week!!hope you enjoyed your virtual visit, sorry you could not make it in person, see you all next time lol

Amazing photos Dotty (you are right about Fergus!). The garden looks beautiful as always :o))

So much of interest for all to see and Fergus captured it beautifully. I was salivating as soon as I clapped eyes on those cakes.
I love the way the wisteria drapes and falls to the broughton star and is then punctuated by the topiary, and the Crinodendron has really made a statement and so have the Hawthorns, I could go on and on but I`ll end by awarding you the Gold.

I'd not seen pictures of your back garden before - its gorgeous. The cakes all look very professional and very yummy - not too much of a problem eating up the leftovers there? The hawthorns are amazing - not surprising everyone was interested!

What a fantastic garden.I'm glad the sun shone for you.It makes so much difference!

11 Jun, 2013

I thought about you on Sunday as we walked round open gardens in a nearby village. We didn't have sunshine but so pleased you did - it must have made all the difference. Lovely photos from your grandson, a real talent there. Your garden looks so loved and cared for - well done to both you and OH - wish I could have been there :)

11 Jun, 2013

Congratulations ! I'm glad it was a success. You can be very proud, and I am pleased you had so many helpers. It must have been a lot of work for you :o)

Many congrats Dd. your garden looks fabulous, all that hard work certainly paid off. Glad all went well for you all. Tell your grandson he is a great photographer in the making. :0

I love the way all your family get involved Dd, they do you proud every year, the cakes look delicious and like Stroller I am fair drooling here as well.
Fergus has done an excellent job with the photography and your garden looks amazing, I would love to have a wander so the virtual tour is much appreciated.
Well done all of you and I'm pleased you had a good and very successful day...

DELIGHTFUL GARDEN.

So glad you had a sunny day, and fun with all the family joining in. Congratulations to Fergus - he has a good eye!!

Wow thanks so much for all your fantastic comments, instead of replying to each one of you, I will direct my comments to you all.......hope you dont mind!! feeling slightly shattered, have been busy pruning Camellias, getting out of hand now, and Pittosporum which should have been done weeks ago, so now having to tred very, very, carefully (it is in one of our borders!!) between the plants, have managed to deadhead an iris and a daylily, sigh!!and flatten several other poor plants, but at least it is done now......
Eaten the last of the cakes, they were scrummy....sorry, we sold far more cakes when we opened in the afternoon 2-5 than we did this time opening all day? so difficult to judge, more of a problem than the garden lol
We are so lucky that all the family take an interest (thank goodness) perhaps one of them might take to gardening when they grow up....Fergus is a little star, chats to everyone whatever age, he will be most chuffed you like his photos, will book him again for July!!
Thank you all once again for your lovely comments, and keep your fingers crossed for a good day in July....xxxx

What a lovely visit! It's great when someone new takes the pics, because you get a whole new perspective of a place! Love your standard roses DD, and your cakes look as heavenly as last years! 100 people...that's really great! Tell me, how do you cope with parking on your open day?

12 Jun, 2013

Stunning! Fergus is a natural with the camera too. I love the crinodendron and the hawthorns - might have to implement that idea. So glad it was well attended and lovely how it's a family affair. Well done all.

12 Jun, 2013

Lindak thanks, it was a lovley day, not at all like today!!
Karen what standard roses lol? regards parking people park up and down the road, or wherever they can, never been a problem as yet!!
Tuesdb.....Thanks for your kind comments, Fergus will be delighted, the Crinodendron is always the most popular tree whenever we open, wont be many lanterns left after tomorrow, gale force winds!!

12 Jun, 2013

12 Jun, 2013

So pleased for you that you had so many visitors & stunning weather! You OH did a really good job with the Hawthorns! The Chinese Lantern tree looks really fabulous!!! :-))

13 Jun, 2013

Hello Dotty - your garden is as stunning as ever :-) Give Fergus a pat on the back from me, he has done a perfect job. Love your plume poppy and arent the Montana's just superb. I see you like your yellow's - if you would like a root of golden hop, you are more than welcome :-) Glad you had lots of visitors to enjoy the cakes. Love your garden :-))))

13 Jun, 2013

I also covet the black bamboo! Hi dawn!

13 Jun, 2013

Hi Karen. Love black bamboo, wish mine would have a spurt of growth though, dare I say that about bamboo, although I think the black one is well behaved :-)

13 Jun, 2013

what a lovely garden and well done on the 100 visitors. That is an amazing number. the cakes are almost as good as the garden [no calories in the garden :o)] [unless that's where you eat the cakes!]

13 Jun, 2013

SBG thanks we were very pleased to make the 100, in fact it was just over 107 to be correct, totted up today....
Hi Dawn good to see you , and yes I do love yellow in the garden, thanks for the offer, but we do have a very large hop, rather battered at the moment, after the gales here today, does it every year lol
Karen they would have been very tall roses lol!!
Thanks Balcony, my OH likes a challenge!! the lantern tree has lost a few of it's lanterns today which is a shame...
Eileen many thanks, it is a labour of love.....

13 Jun, 2013

True! That was why I was so impressed!! Lol ;)

14 Jun, 2013

So sorry we missed it this year DD, was looking forward to seeing all your new "bits". Looks every bit as good as when we saw it last. Cakes left over? I really should have got there lol!

4 Jul, 2013

What a fantastic garden Dd, wish I could get there, this is the next best thing. It would almost be worth the travel for the cakes alone:-)))
