DEFINATELY not to buy any more Bearded Irises.
These are the reasons…..
All the ones that flowered in 2016

I broke my 2016 resolution quite early last year, and these have still to flower, also existing ones that took a flowering sabbatical last year. Another 30 plus!!
Three of these are my own crosses plus I have more seedlings coming along.

So thats whats S'iris means ! They are lovely, and good strong stems to stand up to the winds.

My New Years Resolution is to make proper gravy and stop buying cartons of granules. Have kept it so far.

That's how I used to be with Clematis! lol....ridiculous aren't we? But they are so beautiful. In fact I am going to dig out a small circular bed as soon as the weather allows and use it to plant a small tree and the Irises you sent me this year!

Do you like other iris species too? If so I would you like me to send you Iris ungucularis 'pelopenese snow' when I send the kalmeris? {not forgotten about it just not got it ifted }

you certainly have a lot of them. I love them.

Wonder how long you're going to restrain yourself...you wouldn't think there could be so many variations - and yet there are more?

Oh Siris what a stunning collection, they are beautiful. Let us know when you buy the next one..........you know you will!!!

Stera, there are thousands of different coloured Bearded Irises, and more being developed each year.
Seaburngirl, I am supposed to have a clump of blue unguicularis, but I think I have mislaid it, ie given it away by mistake, Pelopenese sounds good, thank you, I will Pm you.
Karen, at least you have the space for your obsession. I was investigating trying to get a share in an allotment, but there is a minimum 2 year waiting list.
Diane, Siris originally seemed a good name, unless the name should be mistaken for a terrorist organisation. Should have put an apostrophe in originally. Proper gravy sound like quite an easy resolution.
Wildrose, no I won't, I won't!

Sue...what you need is an elderly neighbour with a messy garden you could take on!

13 Jan, 2017

Karen, I keep the narrow borders in the elderly lady's garden next door tidy and have put a couple of Iris in there, but she doesn't want the borders extending to accommodate any more.

Gorgeous . . . but I think the best New Year's resolution is not to make any resolutions :)

13 Jan, 2017

I thought because it was winter I wouldn't be buying plants but, I saw Karen's beautiful Pansys and oops! I bought some. I would love to grow Irises as they were a great favourite of my father. I don't have a good spot for them but I have one in a pot that is doing well.

Wrong neighbour Sue! ;)

Such willpower!, ha ha!
but, why would you want to resist these beauties?

13 Jan, 2017

I agree, Sheila, I did more or less keep my other 2016 resolution, that was to tick the 'like' box on Goy member's sites before moving on and forgetting.
Linda, if your Iris are Bearded I hope the pot is very large, they have wide spreading roots and don't flower reliably if contained, bulbous Iris would be better for pots.
Karen, Maybe I should approach the young couple the other side. He isn't interested about gardening, she is, but is too busy with her young son and puppy dog.
Paul, willpower, no such thing. It is only that I have few places suitable for anymore.

For your information, they are in chronological order the first one started flowered on 15th April, and Carnaby the last but one pic on 6 June. The last pic is mostly Remontant types flowering outside the normal season.

I realised you had a huge collection!! but not that many, also I can understand you're obsession with them, they are so beautiful, and all so different......and you will be forgiven if you fall off the wagon!!:-):-!
I have given up saying I am not going to buy any more plants, already clocked up a few, and it's only halfway through the month!
Perhaps you should move and buy a house with a much larger garden!!.....only joking ?

Wow! They are beautiful and so varied in colour.

OH has a collection of Alstroemerias with no room for more but we still like to call on Viv Marsh to see his plants. Gardeners can be obsessive!

Like the professional way you have portrayed your various Irises.

DottyD : even a field gets full up!!

True Eirlys!! as we can see from Sinbads daylilies!!

Amazing Siris and in every colour you can think of. A beautiful collection. I didn't make a new years resolution but am trying not to buy any plants unless I have a space to fill. I've had a bit of help as in December my nearest Garden Centre burned down one Sunday afternoon. It was on BBC news the fire was so big and close to Heathrow. Since then, on 3rd January another closed, the local Wyvale, for extension by Brunel university. They own the land I think and years ago it was all a huge nursery, Lowe and Shawyer. Brunel was built on the site. To top it all, the local paper this week said two more are going for housing, Windsor Wyvale and Squires. How much more help do I need?

Dd, we couldn't possibly move after 42 years in our bungalow, couldn't take all my plant, lots have memories of visits to buy them or gifted by friends, particularly generous Goy friends.
Oh, Thorney, that is a drastic way to keep your resolutions. Many of our local small indipendent nurseries (gems) are being swallowed up by the big boys, then sold off for housing. The council sold off our local allotment for housing too!
Eirlys, thank you for your comment, on the display, but 67 Iris would not fit individually into 64 squares!
I like visiting nurseries, to look at their specialist plants, alway try to support them even if a purchase, which has to be shoe horned in. Use them or lose them!
Eirlys, just googled Viv Marsh Alstros, what a lovely selection, but Shropshire a bit far to pop in.

Pea green with envy, S'iris. It's a fine madness, isn't it?

15 Jan, 2017

What a stunning collection S`iris, Grid 4 Top line far right a stunning orange one can you name it please.

15 Jan, 2017

Lori, now a pea green bloom might be interesting?
Stroller, that Orange one is a Border Bearded (BB) called Maid of Orange, vibrant isn't it. BB just means it is shorter than Talls.

Thorne...unfortunately or should I say fortunately in Hampshire GCs are thriving, and many to chose from, so spoiled for choice!!

17 Jan, 2017

I think also the owners of small independent nurseries have just got older and no one to take it the business on as was. I can think of Blackthorn (Hellebores), Chiffchaffs unusual plants, Applecourt nurseries, Hemerocallis and Hostas, bought my Hosta Sea Octopus there, all no longer operating.
