i have an old fir tree in my garden and i have kept it to place bird feeders on
but i noticed the other day that there where what looked like to be sawdust and i thought woodworm but no
today i saw a very small wasp like insect crawling in to a hole
could someone tell me what it is and how to stop it please

Maybe one wasp can't do much harm to a big tree. It is part of a garden's ecology. Perhaps make a little woodpile or two in a quiet corner and give waspy a bit more choice of habitat....if you havn't already done this. Otherwise swat it if you can, or block up the hole if it really worries you. We had one that lived in the top of a metal pipe in our greenhouse. Used to fly between me and the bench where the pipe was leaning.
