Many thanks especially to Andy Jeavor for answers to my scented broom question. I think the most likely plant is the Spartium juncium. I didn't know this latin name for the Spanish broom but it looks the most similar.

We had some lovely big ones at work around a playground. They smelled devine...a smell similar to Savlon antiseptic cream (Mmmmm) but it filled the air for hundreds of yards.

Then someone mentions that the seeds might be poisonous to kids and they chopped the lot down !!!!

How do I say thanks?
