Been trying to ID this miniscule flower for a couple of weeks now...no joy. It is just about 2mm in diameter when fully open. Or as big as the large spot on that Lady birds back. The plant grows flat to the ground

Thank you Alex..but no...different leaf and this one does not have outwardly visible stamens.

I did notice that....it grows wild here...I'm sure I've seen it in my garden as well. Little blue flower hunting tomorrow...

It will drive you mad Alex..also if you try to touch it the entire head flies off no matter how gentle you are.

It isn't in the Collins guide. However I'm pretty sure its a veronica of some sort though can't find an exact match. Try Googling Flowers Veronica - its a huge family and some of them are very close. I looked up a site with lots of flowers of Corfu but disappointingly it wasn't there.

I agree with you Steragram, I think it's some sort of Veronica. I did a search as well.....can't find the exact flower.

Looks to me lika Alkanet. It was the hairy stems and leaves that sold me. And in the Alkanet the stamens are hidden.

Thanks for trying 2ndhand..Alkanet has 5 petals this one only has 4.

Pimm's - if I give you my email address in a PM, could you then send me the pic by email? Then I can show our 92-year old "aunt" who is an expert on wildflowers??

The veronicas[speedwells] are notorious for crossing with them selves and they also change the petal config. this one is more often found with 3 blue and one pale blue/grey petal. is it germander speedwell? I'm at kielder resevoir away from my flower guides so not much help.

6 May, 2012

Thanks SBG...Germander has been suggested...and dissed (by me and my guide) ..it does have to be of the family I would think, but I can't find it.

6 May, 2012

I think it's a speedwell
