i would wate and see for sure and maybe scratch the bark to see if there is green or signs of life .

Difficult to say without much more information - are you sure its dead, or have the new leaves just been destroyed by frost? Common problems on Acer palmatum varieties are dieback and phytophthera - they are also very susceptible to honey fungus.
