Many thanks for your advice Tug and Beattie, it's much appreciated. I'm so glad I asked about the rotavator before rushing to try it out. I'll do as you suggest, clear the weeds and add top soil. I have some evergreen shrubs along the rear fence and add bedding plants for colour in summer, but the garden is small and my grand-daughter plays there so grass is essential too. Regards.
