Paul I think it is highly unlikely you will grow a Gunnera manicata in any pot. as Bulba has already said it will turn into a huge plant 2 metres in height and 3 metres across, needs a deep moist soil, preferably near water, and full to part sunlight.

i have grown a gunnera manicata in a large pot for about five years now.i have never had a problem with it,i give it a good watering with the hose pipe and thats about it.i have some pictures of it,check them out in my photos.in summer we sit under the leaves to get a bit of shade.give it a go Paul im sure it will be ok and so worth it.

Sanbaz lost hers this Winter, in a pot. I suspect the roots were frozen.

I suspect we can expect more severe winters like the last two.

AS a thought Paul, because we were told that Gunnera was so invasive we had in a buried, bottomless container to start with. Poor thing sulked, been in the ground for several years now, very happy and not overly invasive which is more than can be said for the wee Gunnera magellanica which is romping all over the place!

haha - I can imagine it getting over powering - I hope it does somehow come through for me - but it is as you say look a bit droopy

I have a Gunnera Manicata that I have been growing in a wooden planter, but I have flowing water (recirculated) that flows around the planter to keep it moist. It has done well for 8 years now. The wooden planter is about 2.5 ft. (.8 metres) in diameter and with slightly acidic loamy/sandy soil.

Previous question
Paul, Gunnera manicata can grow into a massive plant and it likes/needs deep, permenantly moist soil. I am afraid that I don't see it being suited to pot culture at all.
