Gunnerera root system
By Gardenlovers
United Kingdom
We have a large Gunnera which is about to flower, and is already sitting proud of the surrounding soil. We want to lower the soil level in this area and cover with gravel, but do not know anything about the width, depth or type of root system. Should we leave it until the autumn/winter before trying lower the plant?
Any advice would be greatly received.

Gunnera do have huge roots. Isolate it and box it in.

Hi Garden Lovers so far as I know Gunnera have a huge root system making it difficult to move once established. You are talking about covering it in gravel but the plant needs a humus rich very moist (running water wet) soil to thrive - where do you have it planted?
