I'll try that next year - slightly different to my way, but I like to learn new tricks!

There seem to be four ways Meanie. Cutting in a pot. Cutting in water. Layering, and banking up soil, which I will do to discourage that legginess they develope. That's the beauty of GoY. All that wisdom stored up out there, by very clever gardeners who garden professionally and open their gardens and share the knowledge.

« what do you do with penstemons when they are finished flowering?
Next question
Not really but they take very easily from cuttings ( take them any time from late July to about now) or you might be able to pull some side shoots off which have roots. If you can't find any, bank an inch or two of soil around the base of the plant and the stems will root into that naturally and you will then have a plentiful supply of stems with roots with which to propagate new plants
