I have noticed that quite a few of my tomatoes seem to be splitting can anyone tell me what might be causing this ?

Yup irregular watering will do it any time. It does not work to throw a gallon or two of water at the plant and the ignore for a week, they need regular watering every other day at the least.

Usually that means that they are drying out too much between watering, or have had a dry spell recently.
