my brussels are now 3ft high,do i cut the tops off,so that the brussel sprouts get bigger?or have i to wait until the first frost,or do i wait until i have picked all the brussel spouts and then eat the tops later,just this is my first with brussels,any info ,most greatfully welcome,Gingernut

HI KEN ,Thanks for the reply,so first i let the brussels come ,and after i have had all the brussels,then i cut off the tops,i thought that taking the tops off first would then feed the brussel sprouts,they are doing really well as i put 2 trailer loads of horse manuer in the soil ,anyway thanks again any advice is always welcome ,cheers from gingernut.

Do not cut tops off - Sprouts are extremely easy to care for - just ensure they do not run short of water. Hand weeding (their roots are shallow and easily damaged) will also be necessary occasionally. Unless the soil is very poor, do not feed with any fertiliser, this will only result in leafy sprouts. A mulch of well-rotted compost will be appreciated. If the site is exposed to strong wind, staking may be required.
