That's a great shot. These plants add such great impact to a garden.

Thanks Bernie. It was my first time with them, and I love it. They don't mind cold either. They do draw the moose though.

Yes I can imagine they would be rather tasty to a moose LOL. I've never grown them but I do think they look fabulous in the right garden spot - they have such fabulous colours.

Gorgeous colours, hope the moose give them a miss.

Thanks, I have a new appreciation of these now. I'm planning a little landscaping with these and giant cabbages next year for structure, might get moose, but it'll be worth it anyhow.

I notice you have changed your avatar picture! It's quite disconcerting when people do that!

I've seen these on sale here recently. I even saw some seedling plants for sale in a garden centre my wife & I visited yesterday.

About 10 or 11 years ago I was teaching English in academies in Madrid, Spain. I stayed at my sister-in-law's flat during the week & went back home to Cuenca at the weekends. I often had to catch a bus to go to the academies where I taught & there was a sort of park with the local council offices in it. All around the edges of the park where it met the street there were beds of flowers & 100s of these ornamental cabbages! They looked sooo good there. They didn't seem to be bothered by the 40ºC heat either! They were in the sun during the hottest part of the day too.

I've seen a few in gardens here in Huntingdon. My wife was surprised to see them when we went to a town close by a few weeks ago. They were selling them on a flower stall in the middle of the street market.

They are resilient and realiable and a nice color. I saw a row of giant cabbages at the bot. garden this year that was a structural wonder. I'm planning something like that here next year. Hoping it survives the moose.

I like the change the avatar with the seasons. Summer has past so I picked a favorite from the summer display. :-)

These are colourful. At least the cabbage whites aren't around now.

I don't see them here. Theres a little green one, but not as destructive. I noticed these still going in a garden in town, and believe it or not, blooming snapdragons! It was 10F last night!

Oh, love these!..

My Snapdragons are still flowering & I expect them to go on for some time yet. Nevertheless I'll let you know when they finish.

My Nasturtiums are flowering better now than during the summer! They are supposed to like hot dry conditions & poor soil but mine are flowering their heads off now when the temps are down to only 4ºC at night & only about 13ºC during the day.

I´ve uploaded a few photos to my photos.

Thanks Tate. :-)

The snapdragons, Balcony are far more resilient than I expected. I'll leave them in and see if they reseed next year. Nasturtiums here are a sure fire win for fall performance. They are nice and big then and just go and go. They are not at all hardy to a hard frost though, just as a warning. Its a sad day to see the whole big thing go, but there, you should get much more season from them.

Snapdragons, at least those growing wild, will take any amount of cold temps here in the UK. The temps here won't be as low as you get I imagine though! They do need very, very well drained soil though. Like so many plants it's the wet, soggy soil that kills them off. Mine for the most part are in clay pots on the balcony railings. They share their pots with Fuchsias & Lobelia & Busy Lizzies. The last two self seed everywhere & come up like weeds! I don't mind though in fact I look forward to seeing them & wonder what colours they will turn out to be. They will all die in the first frost we get. But I'll be interested to see just how well my Snapdragons fair. I'll let you know.

I know very well that the Nasturtiums will die at the first touch of frost but hopefully that won't be for a few more weeks yet!

I hope you don;t see any of the cold for a long time to come. We're snowing here....lol.

21 Oct, 2009

These are really a wonderful color Thilak. I'm getting more next year. Sounds like the spring is just come there. I'll have to come watch as things grow. You've such a great dahlia collection.

22 Oct, 2009

Hope your Dahlias do well, Raj. :-) What sort are you growing? I like the Cactus type best of all but I like all Dahlias. I have problems with earwigs doing a lot of damage to them but I'm going to give them another go next year. I collected some seed from some chocolate coloured leaf ones.

24 Oct, 2009

Oooo, that sounds nice.

25 Oct, 2009

Have a look at my blog on the triangular roundabout to see some. That's where I collected the seeds!
