Pepper plant

Asked on 9 Jul, 2008

I purchased from our local gardning ventre what I thought was an ordinary green/red pepper plant. It is in the greenhouse and has grown into a healthy plant with lots of flowers and fruit forming. The unusual thing is is that the fruit are black. Is there such a thing as a black pepper. It looks like an aubergine in colour but is a round shape with normal pepper plant leaves. I have not cut one open yet. Is this a freak plant?

Not at all "freaky" pepper. You do get black, purple, and brown peppers (known also as Chocolate Peppers), but am surprised that you found one in your local garden centre. It would be gr8 to see a pic of this.
