I am growing potatoes for the first time in a container/bag how do I know when the potatoes are ready

they dont always have lots of flowers on when in pots,but if you stick your hand in the bag when afew flowers have appeared you can see if you have a good crop. i always grow mine in pots and dont get as many flowers as the ones people grow in the ground but still a good harvest.
