echinops ritro...a very pretty thistle! (Echinops ritro (Globe thistle))

this plant is a good colonizer...this spring it protected a stargazer lily's shoots from the attention of my lovely little rabbits! the lily grew up and bloomed in the arms of the echinops!

Thanks everyone! If you would like a very hardy, relatively care free plant, Fp, I would heartily recommend it. It is a self seeder and once a clump is established it will wander a little, but it's not as focussed on a takeover as feverfew is, for example. I grow it for the colour...I love a smokey blue..and it blooms at the same time as the lobelia syphilitica which is a sky blue. And for some reason the rabbits don't eat it!
