One of my favorite plants, I have several different colors growing throughout the yard. They seem to bloom forever !

This one just appeared in the middle of some irises this year....don't know where it came from. Perhaps it is a gift from the birds.

Hi Nancy...don't you love these plants? I just bought a "Sweet Kate" the other day.... it has yellow leaves (the more sun it gets) and the flowers seem huge... I decided to plant it with the yellow iris...maybe a mistake but they both like lots of moisture and full sun...so they are at the sunny end of the pond and I am going to take notes as to who can out compete whom...maybe I'll get a show from them? Great pic, as usual.

That's a great gift from the birds! I usually only get their gifts on my windshield :)

Members' notes...
Planted in 2007 (late). wait to see flowers in 2008
A native wildflower here, but only a few ever found in my woods. I transplanted several to my yard and now they are reproducing nicely. Most are bluish-purple but some are more pinkish-purple. Native americans used the roots to make a tea to treat various stomach, kidney and female ailments. The leaves were also mashed andmade into a poultice for insect bites and skin inflamation.
Its in my garden outside at the side of my house.
Two types of Tradescantia - a dark flowered one, that came from a friend's garden in spring 2004 - often wondered if it was Anderson group? The other, is a paler cultivar that is definitely Anderson: Tradescantia x Andersoniana 'Concord Grape'. The latter came from New Hopetoun gardens in 2008.

Spiderwort is all over the place here. Very invasive but looks beautiful in mass plantings.
