oh they have all been present this year, and these are all suposed to be fairly desise risistant varieties, - David Austin ofcourse which helps but i don't think there is a rose out there that is hassle free, but then they do reward you so nicely if you do put in the extra effort. but i have had more than my fair share of black spot, and green fly - along with little green catapillars that just eat through all the leaves, but i just keep picking over, feeding spraying, and dead heading, if you keep hard at it you can get the better of them all in the end.

Hi Gilli, it is called 'Rhapsody in Blue' it's a David Austin rose, that turns slate blue as the flower fades - or it is suposed to, mine just tend to turn a puple colour, but it is very pretty though, really glad i bought it.

'The Pilgrim' (Auswalker) David Austin recommended variety. (yellow)

English rose collection, bred by David Austin, Medium shurb/short climber

hardy

strong scent - tea and myrrh

very full flowers repeating - good.

an excellent pure yellow rose, that combines unusually storng and healthy growth with bloom of the utmost delicacy and charm. thes are quite large and evenly shaped, with many small petals opening to form a flat flower. they have a softness of texture which is most pleasing, and look particularly fine when arranged in a bowl.

The pligrim is taken from chaucers 'Canterbury Tales'

4ft x3ft

arrived mid december 2007 - during heavy frost, i have planted it with special root stuff inbetween pineapple lily and Osteospurnum along right hand bed before the woodland area. the ground was pretty frozen (about an inch down) so i pored some warm water over the area where it was planted, so fingers crossed it will take ok.

'Noble Antony (Ausway) - David Austin recommended variety. the name comes from Shakespeard's plant 'Antony and Cleopatra'

English rose collection, bred by David Austin, the flowers are bight magenta pink double/full bloom.

it has a very strong old rose sent in all climates. very free flowering which won the fagrance prize at the Glasgow trials.

A short, bushy rose with dark foliage and flowers of a pleasing sade of deep magenta-crimson. thes are full petalled and the outer petals turn back to make a perfectly formalized, deeply domed flower. an attractive and unusual shape. an ide3al rose for smaller gardens and for the front of the border. reliable and disease resistant.

January 2008 planted in right hand bed in front of the patio, inbetween Abraham Darby Rose and Alpine Sunset Rose.

Bought from David Austin web site January 2008.

'Rhapsody In Blue' (Frantasia) - David Austin recommended variety

modern shrub rose, bred by Cowlishaw. semi-double sweetly scented. hardy and good repeat flowering.

this new variety has created a great deal of excitement around the world in rose trials. the colour is an irridescent purple that fades to slate blue and is almost certainly the closest yet to a blue rose. it will grow into a tall, bushy shrub that repeat flowers well and is very healthy. 4.5ft x 3ft.

January 2008 - it has not arrived yet but i have plans to plant it in the red/blue corner - along the fence where the foxes come in - thought the prickle might put them off!

feb 2008 arrived! planted with lots of organic soil improver and rose feed, i have secured the fence at the bottom with bamboo stick which should hold for a while. it's quite a nice size so should look lovely and do well here.
