i actually found this growing in from next doors garden under a load of brambles, it was just 2 weedy looking stems that i stuck in the ground, and this is the result! mind you i have put endless amounts of soil improver into the soil this year to get everything going quickly - it must have thought that all it's christmases had come at once after being burried under the brambles for so long.

Great pic. ! I love this plant, just wished it loved me. I tried to grow it on two different occasions...the results were the same, dead as heck !

Sorry yours didn't do well. This plant seems to like our European climate. It's in a partially shaded spot where the soil is quite good because the previous owner had ducks and chickens etc running there.

well drained soil

Sid

I use this for ground cover and back of the border - evergreen, architectural, pink flowers and autumn colour.

Chrispook

Planted near path in bed next to rockery. It is now 2 years old (March 2008)

joclark

Front garden, both beds under windows. Planted Oct 07.

AdrianFinland

Has been in the garden for many years, and is well established around base of Moss Rock.

A quote from BBC gardening seems to accuratly describe what we have growing here in Finland:

"Naturally found in Siberia, this tough perennial has broad, leathery leaves which make dense ground cover when established especially if grown in a group. Although green in summer, the rounded foliage often becomes tinted purple in winter. Its nodding rosy flowers in early spring are held on knee-high stems."
