OMG! I hadn't got to your wall picture when I made the last comment.
Spritz is so right...fabulous! What is growing on the wall? I'd suggest putting up a birdhouse among the shrubbery. Congratulations on your progress.. looking good!

thanks for the comment, the wall is basically georgian with a slighty later addition as the bricks change thickness about two thirds up . growing up the wall is a climbing hydrangea, which i pruned and shaped last year, after it was damaged in a storm. so hopefully this year it will produce more flowers and fill in a bit. this is the wall where i have the two bird boxes as it is north facing. i did have some bluetits in one of the boxes , but a woodpecker got to the chicks/eggs by making the hole bigger, so this year i have fitted metal plates to the fronts.also got a red robin shrub planted , which should provide more cover to the right of the hydrangea, i think it should grow to about 10 feet.
