Pretty special aren’t they!

They're absolutely beautiful...and completely wild. My pics and conversations always lag behind GoY members in the UK and Europe. Siris has a lovely pic of emerging trilliums and I wanted to share mine. sorry for any confusion: these pics are from my archives: 2013.

Great to see them anytime Lori, I hope my new purchases grow ok

they should do fine in your woodland, Dawn. the leaf mould is mostly maple...but there are also oaks, and beech. It takes them a while to establish, you will have a lovely spring carpet in a few years time. best of luck.

Beautiful flower :-)

Thanks Daylily. I've been doing more research on wildflowers since moving (can it really be?) seven years ago. We have a large woodlot which has been let go for a few years. I'm trying to groom it into a nature trail. There are deer, fungi, wildflowers, squirrels, grouse, raccoons, foxes, coyotes and wolves, bears, and wild turkeys...it's a little wonderland. Dawn and I are engaged in the same pursuit.... what grows in a forest..along with the trees? Lol.. I'm still looking for the pics I know I have of Claytonia... and I don't mean the lettuce type.

Sounds great not sure about wolves and bears though! ;-)

Lori, you are in a beautiful part of the world!
Thanks for the Trillium encouragement, I’m getting more leaf mould now (young woodland) and from what I’ve read should be ok. Looks like I need to be patient. I’ve been reading a lot this winter on woodland plants and I’ve been purchasing what should be nice spreaders. I could share my list. My woodland is tiny compared to yours :-)
My maple and oak are giving the best leaf ground coverage, the pine tree needles form a nice floor but too acidic for some plants I think.

More wows from me for all the wild life and the Trillium. I'm glad you said it was an archive picture cause my grandiflorum (bought last year in flower) hasn't come thro' the earth yet. Just as well as today it's frozen solid.

I agree with Siris, wow.
Siris, it’s so bitterly cold isn’t it, a bit surreal.

I was thinking that the frozen earth wouldn't hurt it too much Siris. Cold weather seems to strengthen some perennials. The trilliums over here are still in frozen ground!

That’s reassuring Lori
