In the Shadow

In the Shadow

A turn in the road in Zion National Park, US, the virgin river canyon. The white upper branches of the cottonwood trees catching the sun from behind on of many sandstone features in the park. One of my favorite shots, had to share. :-)

Oh, that's stunning Gt....such beautiful light. How amazing these rock formations are and those little trees really put the size into perspective!

I like these American Canyons. Reminds me a cowboy song from childhood "...I know Nebraska and Nevada. A lot of beautiful days I spent in Utah...There are just few days left for me here, I hope today I will see my Ohio"... Very nice song. No rhymes, sorry, as lyrics is in Czech. Have you been there for a holiday?

Thank you. Just a good moment. This was my midwinter trip in Nevada and southern Utah. The cliffs are around 1000ft high, the trees do make a great scale. For many miles across four states is a plate of sandstone that breaks off through that classic orange canyons east to west. I got many lucky shots, this one was particular luck and timing. :-)

brilliant photo GT :o))

That's a fantastic photo, GT! The trees certainly give a better idea of the scale of those red sandstone cliffs!

Brilliant photo.....

Thank you, thank you. :-) I really had some amazing and rare moments in this park this year. There is a perfect shot around every corner. I wish the scale of the place could be felt in a photo. Like the scale of a glacier, the pic just doesn't have the presence. I'm going to post a shot of the trees. They were just beautiful in this winter skin.

Thank you. Perfect moment for the light. :-) For size reference, Motinot, that path is the Virgin river with white branching cottonwood trees about 50 foot tall along it. This southwest US canyonlands is very recognizable......lol.

That is an amazing picture, Gt. Used to have a cottonwood in my other garden....the bud covers were very sticky...they would adhere to anything...animals paws and my wellies ...most irritating. Must admit that in the scene above they look magical/mystical...lol. From what I've seen of your photos of Utah it has a wide range of very interesting flora and fauna.

Thank you for reading! It is an amazing place, not often seen in this winter coat. Summer is above 100F and park is full then, park buses only and people people people. :-) This watch much more personal feeling.

It has a beauty all of its own, but I think I`d find it overwhelming...

Thank you Lincs. It is huge an a bit overwhelming. I love that out of body feeling in places like this. Everything is so old and huge!
