lovely Meanie, i take it it's part of the elephant foot species is it?

Now that I could not comment on SL.
It does have a stunning shape though, and is reputedly hardy down to minus 5 celsius.

it has the characteristics of it but not the craggy texture, it is as you say though a stunning shape, and moderately hardy to a bonus..

It's not a genus that I'm familiar with, but this was a sensibly sized plant and has me thinking!

we had a couple in the temperate house in the park. nice but wasn't aware it was that hardy down to minus 5..

Very likely the claims are exaggerated by those looking to sell (I found it out on a Google search) SL.

Ah right, i only know of the elephants foot from the couple at the park, but they were the bigger tender ones. still be nice as a house/conservatory plant though..

Meanie:

The genus: Nolina is no longer valid. It has been in the genus: Beaucarnea for many decades now. I know you've seen the large trees I've posted in the past. This is Beaucarnea recurvata.

If not, here:

Why oh why do they have to fiddle with everything!!!!
They'll need to employ somebody full time to go around checking the validity of the name tags.

Meanie:

In the last 10 -12 years it has gotten so crazy with the changing of the names by taxonomist. It's really quite irritating! (especially for us who have studied horticulture and botany many years ago).

Hopefully, the recession fuelled cutbacks may slow this down for a bit!

22 May, 2011

That's highly unlikely.
