Richard - I'd not come across this before I saw it a couple of years ago, growing in the wild in Kazakhstan. It is usually grown in a bulb house as it needs to be dry during its dormant period. I have planted it in my alpine bed which gets covered with sheets of glass during winter so, fingers crossed, this will work
