Thats lovely, I find that on the whole female Blackbirds are not as timid as the males

Funny you should say that Yorkshire 'cos thats what I thought .. :o)

9 Jan, 2010

I agree, Clarice, my pair of blackbirds are so tame they come right up to the back door and peer into the kitchen to see what I am getting ready for them :)

You manage to get photographs of so many birds Clarice, lovely. The minute I open the door they are off.

9 Jan, 2010

mine are ok to carol, i have two sets of which one set really trust me, i guess the others will to when use to me

9 Jan, 2010

May be this one not keen on other blackbirds in garden she chases them off, Amy, Yorkshire if you doing melted lard with porridge make sure you bring it in at night time as it freezes rock hard.

9 Jan, 2010

yes i found that one out carol, so i bring mine in to

9 Jan, 2010

Mine are all around hiding when I put the food out as soon as I close the door they are apppear like magic, but as soon as I open it ever so slowly and quietly to take a picture they disappear in a flash!

we were really pleased to see a fieldfare in the garden but he is very agressive chasing off the local blackbirds, dont know what to do about it

10 Jan, 2010

Carole i'm taking alot of photos of the birds from inside the house, through the window, to cold to stand outside for me...

10 Jan, 2010

mageth nothing you can do its dog eat dog out there with this snow and ice, nature and survival of the fitess thats all, its hard for us to watch but thats how it is im afraid, just keep putting plenty out and im sure they will all get something :o))

10 Jan, 2010

the fieldfare has ate so much Im surprised it can even get off the ground. ive put food in the orners of the garden to give the blackbirds a chance. there is a bit of a thaw today so that should help

10 Jan, 2010

yes a bit better here to mageth, ive spaced my food out to , it gives them all a chance, my blackbirds come close to house so i tend to put some there for them away from other birds and pigeons,

10 Jan, 2010

Yesterday i got seaguls in the garden took photo of 2 of them, but there was about 1/2dozen but when i went to take photo there was just 2 of them and believe me they took everything with in seconds of coming down and flying straight out the garden, all they left was seed and some apples.but like i say they had to be hungery to come in a small garden.

10 Jan, 2010

yes they must carol, i dont get them in mine just see them over head in next street, they are all sufering arent they

10 Jan, 2010

Its a first for me, when next door sometimes puts old bread on his garage and they come then and sometimes they go on the roofs, pitty there's no visitors on prom to feed them like they do in the season.

10 Jan, 2010

thats true carol, they are coming inland to fine food but its sad for all birds isnt it.

10 Jan, 2010

Its very sad, what with wild birds struggling and me worrying about my fish, dont think its as much worrying about my goldfish, its just the thought of them being in that very cold icey water, more so as they are pets i feel sorry for them, made up my mind though if the fish are OK after this next year i'm going to get a big container and bring them inside my porch, my lot think i'm going soft in my old age. keep thinking of other animals as well out there like hedgehogs etc.

10 Jan, 2010

well lets hope the hedghogs are nice and warm in hybernation :o)

10 Jan, 2010

I hope so ....

10 Jan, 2010

Like to think hedgehogs all warm and in deep hibernation Clarice.Glad didnt tidy garden too much in autumn...have a feeling one asleep in our huge log pile !

10 Jan, 2010
