Hi Seaburn

I had chillies with the same add on, at the top this year , never managed to grow peppers , you seem to have done well with these

Yes and i harvested quite a lot through the season too. Sadly all gone now. I might grow an extra plant next year and freeze the surplus.
how were your crops generally?

they done well this year ,,, although I am sticking to a couple of ncourgettes next year , I am in the process of raising some more raised beds to make them twice the depth so more carrots and I will try parsnips next year . . . a real learning curve the gardening.

parsnips are a great crop. I love them. but like carrots they dont like the soil too rich or they fork.

hmmm I knew that with carrots , the new beds I raised have been left 8inches shy as I have two large compost bins that will be ready for the spring , would I be better not bringing them up with this compost , putting the compost in just now, or even using something else to bring them up with if I am going for carrots/parsnips in these particular beds. The beds have nice light soil in them as it is and don't think they would need any sand.

i'd use soil and then after they have cropped add the compost and grow another crop next year.
