have had a wonderful day in the garden nippin an tuckin …..cleaning, watering more planting ,,,,,,,,talking to the frogs …(screaming at ALL the cats in my cul de sac who poo in my garden ! whatever i put down it doesn’t deter them …i would set my little dog on them but they are all bigger than him lol)) when i had finished it was getting dark so i lit my chiminea and put some sage and lemon thyme on top …oh what a lovely aroma !
then sat down with a lovely G&T …..
but alas my poor roses ….i just cannot seem to grow roses ….i try and try and try …can only think my garden is to shady ,i think roses love the sun … have decided to give up on roses however every thing else is good strong and healthy
i hope every one has had a day in which to enjoy their garden
mookins kindly sent me some meconopsis seed …so i am going to give them a go …all tips gratefully recieved !!!

Aw, Hyacinth, don't give up on roses ... they give so much back in return for our efforts. Have you tried growing patio roses in pots? You would be able to give them the right conditions and move them to the sunnier spots in your garden. there are some gorgeous patio roses that I'm sure would behave themselves for you.

You are right, roses need sun. And don't be scared to pick them when you get them, about at the 4th leaf on the stem, so they will spread. A bit of manure they love too. Just transplant them next winter after pruning back hard to a sunny spot and you'll be right next summer and will be the envy of the neighbourhood!

Bianca, ballerina and Iceberg can cope with some shade and their pale colours will glow

thankyou for all the tips.....when i say my garden is in the shade ...i really mean in the shade i have huge firs at the back of me and an enormous bloomin sycamore in my neighbours garden ...the majority of which hangs over my garden and sun is at a premium but will give all suggestions a go thanks
