Please be careful in the garden and dont do what I did last week….
I was busy weeding and bending down… when I felt a terrible pain in my left eye…. I felt a stick or something go in it… it was so painful. I rushed indoors and had a look I thought id scratched my eye on a plant it was watering and hurting… I bathed it then it seemed ok.. just kept watering… then acouple of days later… after using an eye bath as recommended by the pharmacist….it really hurt and felt scratchy…. I knew I wouldnt get doctors app. U never can when u want one… so I kept bathing it. Which dislodged a piece of plant which had been stuck in bottom of my eye…. I have spent a painful weekend trying to get it out.. thought id have to go to local hospital today….. but thankfully….. I was woken in the night by foxes outside.. my eye was watering so I had a look and a quite big piece of stalk had come out the corner of my eye… I was so pleased it had come out on its own….
so please be careful…. when bending down near flowers… its so easily done… j shall be wearing my sunglasses for gardening from now on…. :)

Oh dear,Holly, that sound horrendous..and we have all had dangerous experiences, one way or another,in the garden..You really should have gone to A &E,to have it checked, and even now,I would go to your Opticians..eyesight is so precious..I'm glad you were able to dislodge it,but please go,just for peace of mind..

Oh dear......
I agree with Bloomer there will be an emergency eye clinic or the gp surgery, just go.....eyes are emergncys...

In a day or two you could develop an infection , not nice.......

Crikey....you were lucky not to do any damage!!!
Yes, goggles or glasses in future.I learnt my lesson years ago when I cut my eye with a young beech branch that I'd cut out. I'd never seen an eye pour with blood before!!!
I agree, you should see a doctor.......I was given anti biotic ointment so no infection got in!

What a dreadful ordeal Holly, so relieved that it came out on its own, makes good sense to have your eye checked out, this will make me take a little more care working in the garden! [lovely picture ;0)]

Poor you, glad it came out and appreciate the warning.

Oh dear Holly :o((((( I'm glad to hear the offending object has come out, and that you are all right.
Stay safe ! :o)

Holly please go to the eye specialist, I am not trying to scare you, I only have one good eye because I had ulcers on my retina about 20yrs ago, I now have an unoperable cataract in that eye, they daren't operate in case they set the ulcers off again, like you I treated my eye myself at the time thinking it would clear up....

How painful Holly - you could have got an appointment at the opticians - when I did that they were brilliant and gave me a full and careful eye examination. I'd suggest you do that rather than A&E or the doctors because they are trained eye specialists there.

Agree with all the above, but so pleased the offending piece finally dislodged for you and eased your disconfort, thank you for the warning.

I am so sorry to hear this Holly but it is so easy to do ....and thank you for reminding us to wear protective eye wear. Please take care of that eye .

The Optician is the best bet,Holly..if there was a problem he/she would refer you straight away.I didn't even know I had a problem with my eye, till I had my annual check up..also,not wishing to scare you either, but better to be sure..

Oh Holly that was a horrid experience I'm very relieved to hear the outcome is good , I know only to well the dangers of accidents in the garden I've been going to the surgery to have my leg dressed for the last month after tripping over a rusty frame in the garden gashing my leg badly it became infected which meant me going onto antibiotics I'm going to have it redressed tomorrow and am hoping it will look much better !

Thanks pamg :)

Good idea,Holly..Docs aren't eye specialists anyway,so they would only have referred you to an Optician,or the Eye clinic..much quicker to cut out the middle man..:o) good luck xx

Thanks xx

Just caught up this this, Holly, and glad to hear that your eye is feeling better. Good idea to have it checked though. Hope all goes well. Take care.

You were very lucky Holly ! A warning to us all ! I ..on the other hand wasn't so lucky ! A similar thing happened to me when we lived at Willow Cottage and was battling with a native hedge. A piece of blackthorn went straight into my left eye and the whole eye was blood shot for a few weeks. The optician did quite a lot of tests and found a scratch going right across the center of my eye. I now have a special lens in my glasses for this eye which has stopped the blurred vision. I too am extra careful now !

Me too Holly !

Me tooo. Always wear sunglasses. My son scratched his Cornea with one of those bamboo sticks. He was in agony. Enough horror stories. But one never really thinks about eyes when gardening. Through the years, gloves and glasses, and long pants and sleeves. Not great with hot days but the scratches from rose plants are very infectious for some people. Never mind the tiny ticks we have had this past summer. It used to be such a clean sport, but beware, today... Glad you are OK.
