I understand what you mean Andrew when you say this does too well in some places. I moved this plant a couple of years ago to a shady area overrun with vinca, totally ignored it and it comes up all the same. In fact some of it still appears in the original location, even though it has to immerge from under a layer of plastic, gravel and 3 concrete stepping blocks.

I bought this plant the year before last. It didn't bother coming up at all last year! So I e-mailed the nursery to complain that it hadn't come up and they said to give it another year, I was pretty pessimistic about this, but I did give it another year and now there are 3 shoots coming up! yippee! Very beautiful plant - I'm gunna plant it with my hostas to give contrast and early interest.
