Here comes the snow again

I’m sorry, everyone, but the deep, deep snow we have had having melted almost completely over the past week, the heavens have clouded over again, and here comes more of the blessed stuff. SO, instead of more boring pictures of snowdrifts and grey skies, I thought I would introduce a note of hope and optimism, sunshine and joy and look forward to the first week of June (not THAT far away) and put up some colourful pictures instead. Enjoy!

Oh poor you! We,ve a bitterly cold wind but forecast for 16/17°c later in the week...most odd for February....hope the snow goes soon.

Let's hope it goes away quickly. Just above freezing here and in a slow thaw. Looking forward to higher temperatures soon. Spring is coming.

Hi Gattina. Lovely pics..
Sorry to read you're snowed under again.

I really feel for you, Gattina. I found it all really difficult when I had over a metre of snow here last winter which stayed, because of severe frosts, for weeks on end and kept me more or less housebound for those weeks, with the car becoming just a hump in the snow. This year, so far, has been very benign for this part of the country, but I won't forget last winter in a hurry!
Really hope you are liberated soon to be able to enjoy these views again. It's very beautiful around you.

How thoughtful to send lovely, bright cheering pictures for us, when you're under a cloud of gloom! I'm glad that you got out when you could, and hope that this time the white stuff won't last too long . . . :((

Maybe go through some of our recent blogs, and cheer yourself up with some of our sunshine?? :))

I'd like to have seen the snow photos as well Gattina!
Pixi25 - you might have had a lot of rain up there, I don't know, but the whole southern half of the country from the midlands down is in big trouble - another dry winter, and the reservoirs not full... we're talking water restrictions unless we have a solid month of rain before April.

Oh, the snowy pictures are out there, Bamboo - have a look in my photos. I could do even more today, but it's getting a wee bit tiresome, now.
I went to the local seed merchant on Saturday to see if they had broad bean seeds in, because they sold out in autumn before I had time to catch my breath. He showed me an entire display of the things, so I asked how long I should wait until I planted them. "Oh Signora - go home and plant them TODAY!" I protested that we still had 6" of snow up in the vegetable garden, and surely they wouldn't grow - "Scrape it away, plant your beans and then tuck them up snugly again, Signora!" was his smiling response. I thought he was having a joke at my expense, but a neighbour said the same thing, so, be-wellied and with a nice sharp dibber I trudged up the garden with my beans, to where OH had cleared the site of snow, and started planting. The wellies collected more and more mud and got so heavy I could hardly walk, I was planting the wretched things into pools of melted snow, and after about half a row, I gave up and found a nice big flowerpot and some damp compost and tipped them all in. If they germinate, I shall find them a lovely water and snow free home in a few weeks' time. Luckily I kept half the boxful back in case nothing comes of this lot, but last year I didn't plant until halfway through March, got a rather poor crop and was roundly told off by the locals for having planted too late. We'll see!

Oh dear Bamboo..lets hope for rain for you then :)))

Bamboo, I'll send some water over! Hard to believe, isn't it?

I think Scotland's had the 40% of rain we're short of...

Just dig a big channel down the country.......

20 Feb, 2012

yeah! lol

20 Feb, 2012

We already have the canal network so we don't need to dig new channels

It's getting all that rainwater to flow south that's the challenge......

Lovely to see poppies! Work has been continuing on our valley road where poppies once grew along the verges and I was VERY annoyed when I saw the area dug up - BUT - the following year the field where the unused earth had been distributed was awash with poppies - just like Flanders' Fields. Amazing! Know what you mean about the snow ... just when you thought it safe to go out into the garden ... Dur-duh, dur-duh, duh-duh-duh-duh ('Jaws' music). We've got a pocket of decent sunny weather, so BB seeds are going in any time now! Hope your snow doesn't cause you problems like the last lot!

Not sure how it's going to manage it, but temperatures of 18°c are forecast for Thursday, so we don't expect this latest snowfall to hang around much. OH has just looked out at the snow-covered drive and decided, since we don't really need to go anywhere, we'll wait for nature to clear it instead of getting the shovel out. Looking at it, though, pretty as it is, it would certainly be enough to close at least three major UK airports and the major part of the M25.

Never mind gattina, springs on its way. I'll be interested to hear how your beans do. I've never heard of planting anything under the snow before. I suppose the snow acts like a warm blanket to them.
