Storm Damage

Storm Damage

We had a severe thunderstorm come through last night around 10:30 pm. It just about blew off my patio shade cover and I lost one arch. Everything else in both the front and back gardens is fine. I'm very thankful that it wasn't worse. The rain came down in buckets and I've never seen so much lightning.

We had a bad storm on Sunday too. Thankfully it was only tall plants such as some sunflowers that keeled over, and our Catalpa tree. All arches etc not affected.

That must be a pain, working at getting everything so nice, to have it damaged so quickly by the weather.

Sorry to hear the storm damaged the patio canopy and an arch, Mike. Are they repairable or will you have to start from scratch again ?
Also sorry to hear of your Catalpa tree, Chris, will it recover ?

Yes Xela, it will. It is very top heavy with all it's big leaves and when drenched & wind blown it now bows over to touch the ground. We are in the act of putting in some good supports for it until the trunk gets thicker.

Thanks so much for your comments everyone. I had a chance to really look everyhting over when I got home from work today. The cover for the patio is fine. No damage to it at all. I stopped on my way home and bought grommets that I will add the the edges of the cover so that I can secure it to the pipes with straps. The arch is history. I cut back the Kiwi vine for now and will give some thought about replacing the arch or relocating the vine. It is actually amazing that there was no other damage of any kind to any of the plants as the storm was very violent and that at least 300 large trees came down all over the city. I'm thinking that it could have been much worse.

Oh Mike! Sorry to hear about all your damage! And Chrispook & Spitzhenry too! The weather is getting quite unpredictable and we have to be aware that it can undo many of our best laid plans. It doesn't make it any easier to face when it happens, but at least with this website we have some lovely photographs to revisit and friends to console us!
Best of luck on putting things right. I am glad it was not worse too.
