SPRING TIME FRONT GARDEN ~ My Welsh Terrier 'Bonsai' surrounded by aubrieta.

Bonsai was a veteran in this photo, but still enjoying life. :o)
Some of the comments below are prior to 21st November 2008 when Bonsai went to doggie heaven.
Rest in peace my furry friend. xxx

14 Oct, 2008

PP ~ thanks.
Bonsai is 13 years old.
Beautiful temperament.
Very waggy tail.
I love him far too much.
He's with his pram and mower on my other photos. :o)

14 Oct, 2008

Beautiful plants and an even more beautiful Bonsai. With a beard like that he could stand in for Father Christmas!

14 Oct, 2008

~ i'm sure he loves you as much! :o)

14 Oct, 2008

Gee19 ~ At Christmastime I'll try to upload a picture of my dogs in their Xmas outfits.:o)

Arlene ~ Bonsai and I are inseparable.
... and he can woof in Welsh :o)

14 Oct, 2008

Bonsai is stunning, TT, as is the floral backdrop.

14 Oct, 2008

which is more than I can!

14 Oct, 2008

David ~ comments much appreciated.
I seem to have mostly springtime flowers.
Lately I've been trying to incorporate more summer and autumn-flowering perennials. :o)

14 Oct, 2008

What a Beautiful Dog Photo TT :) Bonsai looks just Perfect sitting there amoungst the Pretty FlowersXXX

14 Oct, 2008

Jacque ~ Thank you.
He's quiet and very well-behaved, but has the terrier personality ! :o)

14 Oct, 2008

It's nice to see one of your photos Terratoonie. You haven't put many on.

Bonsai looks very handsome. You must love him to bits.

Your garden looks nice too. I like those colours. They look classy.

All the best, Hywel.

14 Oct, 2008

Hywel ~ thanks.
I really like Aubrieta and other spring flowers.
Being a Welsh Terrier, Bonsai enjoys greetings from GoY members in Wales. :o)
He says Noswaith da to Blodyn. ( Did he get it right? )

14 Oct, 2008

Aw....Bonsai is gorgeous! such a sweet face he has, and beautiful garden TT
love Aubretia, must get some more especially the red ones....great!

14 Oct, 2008

He did.
I'll pass the message on to Blodyn.

14 Oct, 2008

Janey ~ Bonsai says Diolch.
( Practising his Welsh today ! )

Yes, I like the red Aubrieta. :o)

14 Oct, 2008

Ha...ha...Finn says " Hola, bon dia Bonsai"

14 Oct, 2008

Bonsai is looking round for a Catalan Sheepdog to translate.
He can only find a Shetland Sheepdog barking in Pictish. :o(

14 Oct, 2008

Never saw any sheep there TT, maybe a Catalan Goatdog! lol

14 Oct, 2008

Janey ~
Your new avatar photo,
Very nice.
I see you haven't had that drink yet.
As the evening wears on, does the picture transform to reveal an empty glass? :o)

14 Oct, 2008

A beautiful boy, you have.
A great example of "man's best friend."

15 Oct, 2008

Newfienurse ~
Bonsai says he likes your new avatar picture,
and he's glad you like his photo. :o)

15 Oct, 2008

I am so pleased to see part of your garden with beautiful Aubrieta in it! (and Iberis and Alyssum I think) At last my nagging to see more of your garden is paying off! Are you being deliberately tantalising and only posting one garden photo every 6 weeks to keep us all in suspense?

P.S. Henry says 'Hallo' to Bonsai and please will you teach him how to pick up leaves and put them in a trug?.

15 Oct, 2008

He looks lovely TT. I note that as a Welsh terrier he woofs in fluent Welsh. Mine of course is a staffie. He doesn't woof in dialect but he sure can turn a 20 piece staffordshire tea service into a 500 piece tea service in no time.

15 Oct, 2008

Sarra ~
Are you encouraging your energetic Ed to smash up expensive Staffie tea sets?
There must be cheaper ways of filling your flower beds with agricultural grit. :o)

Obviously enthusiastic Ed is being kept a good distance from your fantastic fish water feature. Don't want any damage to that.

Bonsai says hello to Ed. Being alphabetically next to each other in the Kennel Club Terrier Group it's important that the Staffordshire Bull Terriers and the Welsh Terriers woof in harmony. :o)

15 Oct, 2008

Henry ~
I've just consulted my Sheltie, Conker, about leaf-gathering.
It took a while to find him because I thought he was vacuuming the grass, but I finally spotted him amongst my other photos, playing with his new toy lawn mower. :o)

Conker has his own little plastic rake which he uses for his gardening tricks, and also in his golfing routines, for raking the sand bunkers.

Henry, Conker says you could be good with the rake, but, being a Labrador, you would need one with a longer handle. Conker could then show you, not only how to collect up the leaves, but how to parade around with a full trug.

Would you like to tip the leaves on the compost heap? To climb high enough, that could involve rigging up some agility equipment, such as an A ramp and raised dog-walk. You've been to agility classes, so you'll be brilliant at reaching the heights. :o)

15 Oct, 2008

Wonderfull picture Terratooine, Bonsai seems to be very confy there, as showing the flowers and his good work as gardener assistant :o)

15 Oct, 2008

Aleyna ~
Thanks. I'm very lucky with my canine helpers. It wouldn't be fun without them. :o)

15 Oct, 2008

Beautiful photo TT .your garden looks beautiful, and Bonsia look so handsome

15 Oct, 2008

Janette ~
Thank you.
Springtime is our favourite season. :o)

15 Oct, 2008

thats all that matters lovley picture.wow you train dogs.i have 4 dogs.i wouldnt be without them unlike humans no disrespect lol.my garden is 40 x 20 .ive got a big dog run for the dogs.little tip if you dont know already.my dogs run on hard standing always.either cement or tiles.i never have to cut there nails ever.my springer is 9 years old.i have a 12` X 12` lean to im having as a bedroom.a 2000 gallon pond and somewear to sit.the dogs cant get into my bit of the garden.ive made the raised pond part of the dog run wall.ow love ya dogs name.mine are jerry (springer spaniel) merkin a staffie cross american bulldog.blanche the pug named after the old dear of corination streets eyes lol and last but not least sausage my sharpi.ps i feed my dogs from a comunial bowl asswell .its a washing up bowl.i bye the cheepest complete food from jollies and just keep filling it.i have done this for about 25 years and i swear all my dogs are perfect weight.i bye different dog food to use as treats lol.maybe im just a tight git lol.all 4 cost me in total about £5 a week to feed and no one has to be in to feed them

15 Oct, 2008

Noseypotter ~
Yes, it's true that when dogs can run a lot on pavings etc. this usually keeps their nails short.

So you have 'Jerry Springer' - very clever. ha ha. :o)

Has your Shar Pei seen the Sausage Trees uploaded by Delonix1.?
If you want to show these amazing trees to Sausage, look on my favourite photos page, down the bottom, near the budgie pictures.
I bet your Sausage didn't know there are Sausage Trees. :o)

15 Oct, 2008

amy
Amy

+Stunning photo TT , The Aubrieta is beautiful , Bonsai is so handsome ,He couldn,t have a better home , I wonder if he knows how lucky he is ............

15 Oct, 2008

Amy ~ Thank you.
I just feel so lucky to have Bonsai. :o)
Welsh Terriers are on the Kennel Club's list of vulnerable native breeds.
It's surprising because they have good temperaments, and are a handy size. Some people seem to find the coat care too much work.

15 Oct, 2008

ill check it out

16 Oct, 2008

Noseypotter
I see you found the Sausage Trees.
Amazing, aren't they ! :o)

16 Oct, 2008

yes they are and yes i will ask you dog training questions .i am intrigued more than wanting to train my dogs like that.it must all be based on food, dominance and dog choice i guess.take care speak soon bye for now toonie

16 Oct, 2008

Ladybug loves the color of Bonsai's coat (probably because hers is the same, basic color) She admires Bonsai's special abilities especially since all she can do soak up the affections of those who are mesmerized by her tininess-no tricks-what you see is All you get. She used to fetch but she would get too excited and cause her airway to suck close so we can't play that game any more.....

16 Oct, 2008

Bonsai says hello to Ladybug.
It seems they both agree that black and tan coats are always in fashion!
Ladybug is cute. That's a pity she has airway problems. You're sensible not to try any fetch games or tricks.

16 Oct, 2008

hi terra
your garden looks lovely as does Bonzai. have you any more dogs that we don't know yet? how do you get them to pose so nicely? when I point the camera at lassie she always runs up to me.

16 Oct, 2008

Hello Islander ~
I'm pleased you like my front garden. Bonsai and Conker have learnt 'stay'.
I have the two dogs, plus Crocus the budgie. That's the total !
We were practising trick routines as usual today.
Bonsai pushing his wheelbarrow up and down my lounge, towing a tortoise-on-wheels around rather rapidly, and then digging away on his toy drums.

But Lassie is good at fishing isn't she ! :o)

16 Oct, 2008

yes and swimming, shes more seal than dog. lassie understands stay, it means chase the rabbits in orcadian

(Orkney dialect)

16 Oct, 2008

Maybe Conker could talk to Lassie in Pictish ~
I think that's the old Shetland language.

16 Oct, 2008

Whew! I finally made it to the bottom of the comments. What a beautiful dog you have TT and the colors in the garden are gorgeous :)

17 Oct, 2008

Tasteyg ~
So glad you made it to the bottom of the comments. If you ever feel fit for a marathon, try my GoY Wellie Olympics blog, currently over 250 comments. Lol.
So glad you like the colours. Can you grow aubrieta in California, or is the climate too hot ?
My Welsh Terrier, Bonsai, says, stay as long as you wish looking at his photo - you wont get a $50 parking fine, like you did recently while taking your lovely plant photos! :o)

17 Oct, 2008

lol, oh TT you are very funny!!! That's a good one Bonsai! I haven't grown aubrieta before, but I looked it up and it can be grown in this region. I'll have to keep my eyes open for it, yeah the color's great. It's safe to say that I am not in marathon shape, but I will have a look at your infamous Wellie's page :) Have a great day!

17 Oct, 2008

Tasteyg ~
Looking forward to seeing you over on the Wellie Olympics.
You must be fit - the way you rush around taking all those lovely photos!
I hope you have success growing Aubrieta. :o)

17 Oct, 2008

Lovely photo, i love aubretia its so cheering to see it in the spring.

18 Oct, 2008

Sewingkilla ~
I agree. And so does Bonsai.
We're happy to see springtime photos any time of year !

18 Oct, 2008

Terratoonie:

What a beautiful flower garden! It is so lush.
Great pic!

20 Oct, 2008

Delonix1 ~
Thank you. My gardens are always at their best in springtime.
Lately I've been trying to plant in colour for the other seasons as well ! :o)

20 Oct, 2008

Is Bonsai partial to cats, and does he know any Italian so that he can penpal talk to my feline friends ?

20 Oct, 2008

Bonsai loves everyone.
Not a mean bone in his body

He woofs Cane and Gatto :o)

20 Oct, 2008

Well that's settles it then TT - I only hope Bonsai has a mobile that's cheap to run as my lot mao-mao for hours ......

20 Oct, 2008

Bonsai is rather elderly now, but Conker the Sheltie is also very good on the phone ( has several plastic toy phones ) so he will help out by woofing across to Italy.
To economise, Conker suggests using two empty spaghetti cans and a long piece of spaghetti strung between them. :o)

20 Oct, 2008

Beautiful carpet of purple (my favourite colour) :-)

20 Oct, 2008

A_jh ~ Thanks.
I like Aubrieta for its many shades of mauve, red and purple.
It flowers for quite a few weeks which is good !:o)

21 Oct, 2008

Marguerite ~
Thank you for your lovely comments about Bonsai and my garden.
Bonsai hasn't been so fit this week. I'm very worried.
He is currently at the vets for tests, so fingers crossed for the results.

21 Oct, 2008

Ah, TT what a lovely little chap Bonsai is. Sorry to hear he's poorly. Hope he soon feels better. Big hug for him.

21 Oct, 2008

~love to Bonsai!hope he is feeling better soon!

21 Oct, 2008

Pottygardener and Arlene ~
Thanks for your good wishes and hugs. Bonsai's test results show cancer near the liver. Not really an option to do major surgery, but the vet thought Bonsai was also not quite ready to leave us. They were so impressed with his good behaviour, allowing them to examine him etc. Must admit I was proud of my boy. He's always had such an excellent temperament.

The compromise is to try an injection to stimulate the bone marrow. This might give him a few more weeks of quality time. I'm off to collect him in about an hour. :o)

21 Oct, 2008

Hi TT
Mags had liver cancer so have been there. Can't tell you how sorry I am.
On the plus side we spoiled him by giving him high protein food like chicken breast, scambled egg etc which he loved! We were told weeks not months by our vet but we had 12 months of which only the last few weeks were difficult when we had to decide what was best for him.
Hope you are insured because we did not have cover so had to just cough up and smile for the tests.ops etc- would do it again though if necessary!

21 Oct, 2008

I have him home. Carried Bonsai back down the path in the photo above.
Realistically, in Bonsai's case, we are talking about a matter of weeks, but he will be getting lots of treats. Conker the Sheltie was delighted to see him.:o)

And no, I'm not insured, so that's definitely no new plants this or next year !

Arlene ~
You coped very well with Mags.
It's not easy. We love our pets so much......
whether it is a cat, dog, guinea pig - all of them.
They're so very precious.

21 Oct, 2008

hI TT
I'm sure he will!
If you want to chat send me a pm~still at home as not quite well yet!

21 Oct, 2008

Arlene ~ Thanks.
Sorry to hear you're still not well.
This week I must try to catch up on several nights of missed sleep! :o)

21 Oct, 2008

~try a hot blackcurrant drink with a slug of rum-you need extra Vit C if you are missing sleep~Bonsai needs you to be strong so look after yourself~x

21 Oct, 2008

A slug of rum ?
We know Andrewr has a war against snails etc, but this slug
seems like a type of which he would approve !

P.S. Bonsai has been enjoying tiny dog-treats dipped in local honey.
Thank you, bees :o)

21 Oct, 2008

~Manuka honey is being used to fight infection in hospitals in Australia and I take a spoonful every day but have run out-must get out to get some more!
Good for Bonsai!

21 Oct, 2008

TT...sorry to hear your news about Bonsai. Any of us who have had pets know this is the hardest part of having them share our lives.
Now it's whatever you want, you'll get Bonsai!
Sleep well TT. But mind the slugs! :o)

21 Oct, 2008

Pottygardener ~
Thanks. Bonsai is still weak, but very interested in food which is a good sign.
Conker the Sheltie is helping to nurse him. :o)

21 Oct, 2008

~ hope you and Bonsai have a good nights sleep-everything seems worse when it's dark and your'e awake and don't want to be-time crawls by!
Here's hoping for a little bit of sunshine tomorrow! All you can do is take one day at a time.
Goodnight to both~

21 Oct, 2008

Thinking of you all tonight. X

22 Oct, 2008

David ~ Thanks.
I'm pleased to report that Bonsai seems slightly better this morning.
Good appetite !
Wobbly on his back legs is my main concern.
I have a terrier near the end of his life and you have your young terrier Lucky, just at the start of his adventures. Looking forward to photos of him enjoying your new garden. :o)

22 Oct, 2008

Arlene ~
You and many other GoY members are helping me so much with encouraging and understanding messages, both on comments, and private messages. This support is making these difficult weeks more easy to manage. Thank you.

In all this, I must make mention of my Sheltie, Conker. He's being wonderful in helping to look after Bonsai, so I've decided to put updates over coming days on my next photo which shows Conker as a nurse. I hope that's okay with everyone. Conker is being a great help. :o)

22 Oct, 2008

TT - I've just read about Bonsai and wanted to send you a message too. It's so very difficult when pets are so much part of our lives and they love and trust us unconditionally. But keep watching your own strength and health, won't you.

22 Oct, 2008

Thanks Spritz ~
I did get some sleep last night after several wakeful nights, so that's progress!
Truth is I woke up at 4.15 am. and checked to see how Bonsai was coping. Gave him some little treats dipped in honey, and then looked in on GoY ! The overseas members must think I'm a real night owl !

I'm so lucky I have Conker helping me look after Bonsai :o)

22 Oct, 2008

You're walkway is beautiful. The colors are so cheery!

28 Oct, 2008

Hi Judi ~
So glad you like this. It always looks its best in springtime.
I hope you're enjoying GoY. :o)

28 Oct, 2008

Your garden is lovely TT, I knew it woiuld be ! I can tell gardening comes naturally to you, Sorry to hear about Bonsai, I know your heart must be swelled to near bursting, with love and concern for him. I hope the next few weeks are full of memorable, happy moments...

28 Oct, 2008

I definitely am. I think plants inspire people to their better natures. And they help with stress.

29 Oct, 2008

Judi ~
So glad you are enjoying GoY. Yes, gardening is generally good for the soul, and watching plants grow makes us more optimistic for the future.

Flcrazy ~ My flower beds have that rather jumbled look of an English Country Garden. Reflects the state of my mind. Lol.

Thanks for your thoughts about Bonsai.
The comments under the next Welsh flags photo show that he's responding well to the vet's magic medicine ~ for a while at least. :o)

29 Oct, 2008

my friend grows and sells bonzi he has about 50-60 if you need to know anything

29 Oct, 2008

Thanks Noseypotter.
My dog is called Bonsai.
Right now he is he only Bonsai I have !
But it's useful to know about all these contacts ! :o)

PS. Looked at your website. Grrrrrreat !

29 Oct, 2008

On 21st November 2008, Bonsai the Welsh Terrier went to doggie heaven.
Rest in peace my special boy. xxx

23 Nov, 2008

Love to you both, TT ~ x

23 Nov, 2008

Many thanks, Pottygardener, Arlene and Janey ~
I've uploaded a photo with spring flowers in my back garden as celebration of his life. x

23 Nov, 2008

Always sad when you lose that special friend. Just try to take consolation from the fact that he obviously had a happy and long life with you. Ed sends doggie love as well.

John.

23 Nov, 2008

Hello John ~
Specials hugs and thanks to Ed.
From Ed's photos he looks a really cuddly, wonderful, mischievous character :o)

23 Nov, 2008

TT, I just want to send my condolences on the loss of your beloved...I lost my Big Dog, Bear, three years ago, and we still can't say his name without getting all misty eyed over him. I needed to get two dogs to take his place! He was a lovely German Shephard, kind hearted and sweet. The good news is that they never really leave you. What they give to the universe is mutliplied over and over and over again in pure love; and with just a thought the love and joy comes back.

6 Dec, 2008

Poetgardener ~
Such lovely thoughts of how our pets live on in our hearts.
Thank you. Nobody can take away the memories of my Bonsai or your Bear.
It is two weeks since my special boy departed and I can't yet talk about him face to face with anyone.

No wonder you still miss Bear.
German Shepherd Dogs are so intelligent, so loyal.
I guess you've seen Jacque's White German Shepherd Dog, Summer, on her pages. ?
Thanks so much for dropping by to leave condolences.
Much appreciated.xxx

6 Dec, 2008

such a beautiful picture

6 Dec, 2008

Thanks SW ~
So glad you like the photo. :o)
I love the springtime with all the different colours of aubrieta.
Are you able to grow that where you live or is it too hot ?

6 Dec, 2008

Is it real?!

7 Dec, 2008

Hello Bahro ~
Real dog and real flowers.
Sadly my Welsh Terrier, called Bonsai, died 2 weeks ago, but I have wonderful memories. I like the picture of the puppy on your photos. :o)

7 Dec, 2008

8 Dec, 2008

Thank you Noseypotter.
My house is very empty without him.
Conker the Sheltie and Crocus the budgie are doing their best to keep me cheerful. :o)

I've just uploaded a photo of Conker the Sheltie with me in the Best Six Legs competition. Take a look if you want a smile. :o)

8 Dec, 2008

i will bless

8 Dec, 2008

Arhhh such a sweetie, i lost my fury friend Buddy AKA the everpresent nostril Oct 07, really miss him. i planted a rose in the garden and scattered his ashes, right in his favorite bone planting spot, so he is still with me when i am out there....also this is a really lovely picture of your garden, would really love to see some more.

9 Jan, 2009

I'll try to put some more photos of my garden during 2009.
There is my photo of "JR" - my Garrya Elliptica - can't recall if you've seen that.

Your Buddy sounds like a really special friend. They remain in our hearts and memories. Lovely that you have a rose especially for him. Which rose is it?
Is it on your photos ?

9 Jan, 2009

'Ena Harkness' its a lovely rich red one, and yes Buddy was a one off, i have a picture of him in my garden page for this rose. and yes would love to see some more, i do like G. elliptica, i had one in my last garden, and it housed a birds nest, that was right outside my lounge window, not sure what type of bird as was never able to get a good look at them, but did they make a racket in spring. lol

9 Jan, 2009

i lost my last dog butler at 4 and a half weeks old he was going to be a lovley boy

10 Jan, 2009

How sad NP, what happened? - if you don't mind me asking,

10 Jan, 2009

That's sad, NP, losing such a very young puppy.

Interesting Maj, you mention the bird's nest in a Garry Elliptica. My JR, which you can see with all his tassels on my latest photo, is quite near the back of my house, as was yours, and last summer, thrushes chose to make their nest between this and a ceanothus growing alongside.
These shrubs are by the dog run, and I reckon the thrushes thought safe from cats ! The thrushes successfully raised two youngsters. :o)

10 Jan, 2009

i get black birds breeding in my dog run in the honey suckle trouble is if they fledge the dog run side my springer eats them

10 Jan, 2009

Hello Bonsai ~
You would adore the new pup "Truffle".
