Divide
Roots should be divided in April using plants three or four years old. Dig up the plant, clear away as much soil as possible from the roots and gently tear the the plant into three or four pieces. The pieces (each should have a portion of root and foliage) can then simply be planted in the ground and left to grow. They should be ready for moderate harvesting in early July time.

Common garden thyme is one of the best-known and most widely used herbs, very popular in its basic culinary form and also as several lovely varieties that merit use in a rock garden or as an edging to garden paths. The solid shrubby growth is covered with tiny evergreen foliage, which can be harvested at any time and will keep its satisfying density if clipped annually after flowering. Plants revel in hot sunshine and drought, so give them very good drainage, and in cold gardens protect them from hard frost or grow them as container plants.
Looks good with:
Salvia officinalis 'Purpurascens'
Melissa officinalis
