Genus: Berberis.

Species: Berberis thunbergii.

A neat compact bright small shrub with red, pink & cream variegation in the leaves. At the brightest in the earl summer followed by a vivid red Autumn colour. An easy to-grow shrub.

From berberys, the Arabic name for fruit. A small shrub from Japan, introduced in 1864.

Suitable for small gardens or planted en masse for a dramatic effect.

Flowers March to April with star like yellow flowers.

Height & spread in 5 years: 150cm x 100cm. Prune to shape as required.
