Garden Centre again ?

Hi everyone, just had to make another trip to the GC again, excuse – more compost ! As we know, things do kind of drop into the trolley unaided, and that’s what has happened to me again… Also, I had some Vouchers burning a hole in my bag, been waiting to be used since Christmas . I knew I would just see something one day that I had to have, and it happened yesterday. A Planter with a trellis at the back was just what was needed to help disguise the corner where my waterbutt is situated. Unfortunately it could have been a little taller, I forgot the butt is standing on a stand !! But I am sure if needed I can put a bit more on behind. Also I have another planter to plant up. A few pictures to show you, 2 more of the hardy Viola’s that I hadnt seen before just jumped in my basket, also an Iberis Golden Candy, which has lovely coloured leaves and perfect for edging, and a yellow trailing Petunia. Hope you will like them..

Thank you Grandmage, the flying plants are a pest, but we love them really don't we. Thanks for the nice comments, I think it will look ok when plants are in and grown.

Thank you Yorks, glad you like them, it is windy but sunny here so going out again now.

You have bought some nice plant's Cinderella, I like the planter. Plants at Morrison's tend to fly into my trolley :-)

Lovely planter, Cinders. If you think it's height may niggle why not raise it, to improve drainage of course. (winking smiley). Looking forward to the piccie of it all planted up.

Thank you Mavis, I don't have a Morrisons near me unfortunately.

Xela, I tried putting it on bricks to raise it up a bit, but it didnt look right somehow, but something might happen one of these days.

Thanks , Sticki. That is Golden Oregano on the corner of my veggie plot. It seems to like it there, its going mad.

very attractive ~ good place for it too!

I love the planter Cinders...isn`t it funny how these plants seem to jump in our trollies? Its happened to me quite a few times recently...something should be done about it...lol! :o))

You have got some great buys - I really do like the trellis with box , that is excellent

I am so fed up with GCs and their flying plants! Have to say though, Cinders, those vouchers have lasted a lot longer than any of mine ever have and probably ever will!! Nice planter!

2 May, 2011

Thanks Sandra, just what can we do, petition ?

Glad you like it Paul.

I know Karen, but I was determined to wait till I saw something really nice, and would be useful.

But did you get the compost Cinders?

I did go for more compost to dig into the widened border and a Phlox douglasii 'Red Admiral' sailed into my trolley.

These are very naughty plants.

Like the violas very much.

Well, good for you, shows restraint and discipline....two things I have always lacked!! :))

2 May, 2011

I do like your planter,Cinders..it didn't take you long to get some compost in ,either ! :o)Nice plants too..glad they were good jumpers..got in the trolley all by themselves.! so clever..:o)

Very difficult Karen !

Yes Sbg, I got two bags, and have used one and a half already. Which means I shall soon have to go again !! How on earth am I going to avoid those flying plants ?
Like your new Phlox, they are lovely.

I know Sandra, I couldnt avoid them. Amazed when I got to the checkout how many were in the basket.

Love the planter Cinders and you got some lovely plants too. I've got some vouchers from Christmas too, plus Mothers Day but I'm waiting for the Bank holidays to be over as I can't face the crowds in the GC's. I've got an enormous list and I'm bound to have lots of other things just land in my trolley too! :o))

2 May, 2011

Thanks Lily, aren't we good, holding on to our vouchers. I still have one left for £25. so there will be another venture soon. You are going to have fun then when you do go, look forward to seeing what you buy.

Great choices Cinders . . . love the violas, Iberis and Rhodohypoxis specially . . . Rhodohypoxis can be tricky, but mine have just a millimetre peeping out, very wise in this wind, so hope they make it.

Your planter is nice - I have seen some with a higher back but these tend to be narrower. You can always attach another piece of trellis onto the back of the existing bit if you find it's too short.

2 May, 2011

Thanks Marie, I agree, and I think that is what I will do. I would like to put a clematis in it, but I think it will be too hot there for it as they like their roots cool and it is not very deep either, so some thought needs to go into what I put in it. I need a climber that doesnt mind getting hot ! Suggestions welcome.

Cracking assortment of plants Cinders, especially like the scented Violas
I`m just in the thro`s of making a trellis planter to cover the wall hose, will blog it when finished.

2 May, 2011

Thank you Sheilabub, I am hoping to make an alpine garden soon, getting quite a collection of alpines now, and they need a special place , the Rhodohypoxis especially. Expect yours will be ok, at least its still alive.

2 May, 2011

Thanks Stroller, will be interested to see your trellis too.

Thanks Hb. I am looking for suggestions now as to what to plant in it that will withstand quite a bit of heat.

2 May, 2011

Good shopping trip Cinders, no good buying a planter and compost without plants, thats my way of thinking, lol......

Nice plants :) and I like your wooden trough and trellis - very nice.

3 May, 2011

can you not raise your new planter to cover the water butt,it looks a sturdy one

3 May, 2011

lovely blog and plants cinders, love the trough with trellis to :o))

3 May, 2011

Thanks Hywel,
Ladybug, I think that might create another problem, so I think the best thing will be to put another trellis at the back if needed.

Thanks San, I am pleased with it all. Enjoy your break.
