FOUR & HALF MILE WALK AT SHUGBOROUGH PLUS OBLIGATORY MISHAP:-)

Last Friday I went on a long walk with 21 members of Walsall U3A along with Hazel and Catherine from my conversational french class. Catherine was our driver. We all parked on the car park of the Barley Mow pub where we would be having lunch after our walk. We all changed into Walking our gear. Although it was lovely and sunny, the wind had got up so I put on my big woolly bobble hat and, as I had been scalped at the hairdressers the day before, I very sensibly tucked some tissue paper under my big woolly hat to protect my ears. The first part of the walk was up a very long steep incline, and my legs were saying no, but I eventually reached level land and the walk got easy. Walking had made me rather hot so I removed my big woolly bobble hat and was talking to the walk leader. He was obviously impressed by my intelligent conversation as he appeared to be staring at me … fascinated. I turned to say something to Catherine, who was by my side, and she said in a very serious voice " do you know you have tissue paper sticking out of you ear?" Did I know? Did she think it was a fashion statement?!! We couldn’t move for laughing …Catherine is going with me to France in May … she said she was reconsidering:-)))

Thought these snowdrops looked lovely.

Don’t know what this is, possibly a folly?

Blue skies smiling at me ….

The Hall.

Pretty

More pretty

Now we come to my house, don’t be jealous, but it’s lovely sitting out here in the summer and the gardeners do a lovely job don’t they?:-)

How’s that for a silver birch:-)

Merry band of walkers and a fraction of Catherine on the right. Lunch was delicious by the way:-))

Our next walk will be a little longer:-)

I love walking but sadly out of action for now due to backache.

Oh my!!! I really did enjoy our walk and thankyou so much for showing your house, not sure about the earings though so think I'll stick to my own.
Seriously though Ba it looks a smashing place and your photo's are lovely, the weather was good to you as well which is always a bonus when an outing is planned..

Oh Ba! What are you like :0)))
Still thats why we ♥ you xxx

You do make me smile Ba.... thank you for that.If Catherine doesn't want to go to France with you.... I will.:-))) Love the photos
Pam... how do you get hearts and other bits I've seen from you....have you got a De Luxe model computer?

Great to go walking with pals, Ba, and I love those trees. Btw, does tissue paper actually work? (I often get ear-ache in the cold, even with a woolly hat!)

Have you and Catherine been away together before? I went with a friend to Paris 2 years ago . . we survived, and are going to Florence together next month. In Paris, we were serenaded by a couple of middle-aged Italian men at our restaurant table, so we're hoping to meet them again, lol :))

Its a Samsung tablet Gralew and I love it, so small and light
I love the apps too, I use the bbci one all the time, and the kindle one.....
□◆★☆♡♥●○ thats about it really, some folk can do musical notes but the hearts and stars are nice

Yes it s folly, I remember it. Did you get a chance to see the old kitchens in the hall, where they do demonstration cooking, and you can buy four they mill themselves. Your Staffordshire blogs take me back!
How exactly to you wear the tissue paper to protect your ears? sounds a good trick if you know how to do it.

Thank you BA, that's my smile of the day sorted lol! I enjoyed the walk with you so much, lovely pics. Isn't it wonderful now the sun has begun to shine, after so much rain?
What's wrong with tissue paper earrings? I thought they were this years fashion statement?

26 Feb, 2014

That looked a wonderful place B/A I do enjoy walking, especially somewhere like that. It is always good fun when you have a few queer ones with paper sticking out of your ears, were you a punk rocker in your day. Lol Can we see a photo of you with the paper sticking out of your ears... Lol

Thanks Scotcat, hope your back gets better soon, at least in time for digging the garden:-)

26 Feb, 2014

Glad you like my house Lincs, I'll invite you all down in the summer:-))

26 Feb, 2014

Eh up Pam, it's odd, but many people seem to wonder what I'm like lol:-))

26 Feb, 2014

Gralew, you're welcome to join us in May, we're just going for 4 days with Newmarket coaches:-)

26 Feb, 2014

Sheila, I just had no cotton wool on me, so the next best thing was some folded tissue, or so I thought lol. I only met Catherine when I started the converstional french course in September. Good luck with your singing beaux this time:-))

26 Feb, 2014

Stera, we didn't go into the house, or even near it, just walked around it. Now tissue paper has many uses, perhaps not recommended for ear decoration though:-))

26 Feb, 2014

Waddy we've had sun each day since the walk more or less. Not saying there hasn't been some rain, but nothing dreadful, even the wind is less forceful. As to tissue earrings, do you really think there would be a market for them?:-))

26 Feb, 2014

Now Johnjoe, you know it's not nice to mock the afflicted and no, there is no photo, although Catherine was wishing she had thought of whipping her phone out and taking one of me looking like an eejit. The worst of it was, I hadn't met any of the other walkers before so I was a stranger to them .... and they don't come much stranger than me lol:-)))

26 Feb, 2014

Great walk, shame about the tissue BA. What a beautiful house you have, should we curtsey :)

26 Feb, 2014

B/A, Catherine, did take that photo and its classic and I had to upload it... Lol

26 Feb, 2014

You are indeed our fashion icon Ba! Earrings that you can recycle and use as a nose wipe too..how clever of BA Enterprises! LOL..
Looks like a lovely walk and your Châteaux is looking simply divine darlink! Can't wait for the invite to tea..\0/xxxx

26 Feb, 2014

Thanks for the invite Ba....To France and your House for tea. We've used Newmarket twice now, once to Paris and last summer, the Yorkshire Dales, they're good.Have you used them before?Definately a market for tissue earrings...... !!!!:-))))))

27 Feb, 2014

Scottish, we don't stand on ceremony at Chez Ba:-))

27 Feb, 2014

John, once again you didn't take my good side and I didn't want everyone to know about the cigar smoking:-)))

27 Feb, 2014

Flori my dear, you can drop in anytime. What fun we'll have in the summer under the shade of my magnificent willow and cooling breezes off the water ... and yes I am patenting the bobble hat with tissue storage/ear protectors:-))))

27 Feb, 2014

Gralew, did your Paris one include Giverny and Fontainbleu ? If so, what was the hotel like as it's probably the same holiday:-)

27 Feb, 2014

No Ba.....Paris, Monmartre, night trip down the Seine, and all the other touristy bits. Our hotel was good, continental breakfast, but plenty of choice, and evening meal which was not included in the price, but very reasonable. Their standard seems high, so I would think yours will be ok.... enjoy!:-)

1 Mar, 2014

We're visiting Montmatre and having a night trip down the Seine too:-))

1 Mar, 2014

You'll enjoy those Ba.Our Seine trip coincided with the french election result, and the students were going crazy on the bridges, cheering and shouting with joy,it was great fun to see them.

1 Mar, 2014

I'm really looking forward to it Gralew, just hope I don't commit one of my faux pas!:-)))

3 Mar, 2014

Does it matter if you do Ba?...lol :-)

7 Mar, 2014

Rather depends what it is:-)))

7 Mar, 2014

Lovely photos BA. There's some fabulous countryside around Shugborough and Tixall.

I love your house, but doesn't the traffic drive you mad? Beeping horns every time someone approaches the canal bridge? My OH has just said "we spotted it first" and before you try to claim any others he's got dibs on a house at Croakadote (not the real name - long story lol) and one at Little On. Lol Lol.

4 1/2 mile walk BA, your lucky, the last time a certain someone suggested a little 3 mile walk, 8 miles later we made it back to the Barley Mow lol. Seats have never seemed so comfy lol.

7 Mar, 2014

I'm sure you won't disgrace yourself..lol!!

8 Mar, 2014

Thanks Sam, I have a lot of lovely houses in France too:-)) I think our next walk is seven or seven and a half miles, no idea where it is, I just signed up for it. Somewhere localish though, I've never walked so far:-)

8 Mar, 2014

Thanks for the vote of confidence Gralew:-))

8 Mar, 2014

Rather you than me on the 7 1/2 mile walk. Hope it finishes in a pub lol. Enjoy your little stroll :-)

9 Mar, 2014

They do seem to end up in a pub Sam:-))

11 Mar, 2014

Haha best way to end a good walk really. A nice cold cider, a comfy seat and someone else doing the washing up lol.
