Bonjour !
We are now docked in Marseille, and decide to take the tour to this wonderful town, well worth the visit, and one of the nicest places we have been.Aix is the former capital of the Provence region, and where the tempestuous politician,
Mirabeau was born, also the famous painter,Paul Cezanne.
It has managed to hang on to most of its character from
the 17th and 18th centuries.
Our lady tour guide, was so passionate about her job,and her heritage,it was an absolute joy to listen to her.We saw and learned all about the Baroque and Riccoco style of Architecture from this area, and saw it all very much in evidence, wherever we went,..this beautiful church was our first stop

Walking back towards the town centre, and the street market

As we approached rhe main boulevarde, there seemed to be lots of activity, even though it was a Sunday. It was very busy,as they have an Association day here, and the street was occupied with stalls all along the length,on both sides. These stalls advertise all the many activities and clubs ,for people to join, with demonstrations taking place. It is a very good idea, and very well supported.Lots of different dance classes, and lots of nice music.

We then started making our way to the end,to meet our coach by the lovely fountain, passing some sculptures, and of course one of Paul Cezanne.A lovely morning out,and we got back in time for yet another lovely lunch on board..Life is so hard! :o))

How about this for a garden planter?

I hope you enjoyed the walk around this part of France,we certainly did.

Thank you so much, Bloomer . . . beautiful tour, and lovely that you've caught the sun too! I remember Aix as a lovely town, and sitting at an outdoor cafe on that wide boulevard under the dappled shade of the plane trees. You'll have to return one day to see Cezanne's studio - just as he left it, and you can just see Mont Sainte Victoire from the window, and his rambling garden. Tres bien, merci!

Interesting and very enjoyable . What wonderful architecture in that church.
Did you join in the dancing ?

21 Jan, 2011

Thanks Hywel,..no,I didn't join in, but wanted to have a go with the Line Dancing..but didn't want to show Russell up..or myself.! Lol.I tried to act with the utmost decorum, when ashore,..and aboard too.:o).They say wisdom comes with age ,don't they? but not really convinced about that.Lol.

21 Jan, 2011

lol ! :o)
I have got much bolder and less inhibited with age. Don't know what I'll be like if I live to 100 lol

21 Jan, 2011

If we live that long,it will be our perogative to be able to act however we want,Hywel..it will be expected of us..people will just shake their heads,in sympathy..but will we care?..not likely..:o))

21 Jan, 2011

No, not likely :D

Bonjour, mon Ami,Amy..is that right? i don't speak French,so its a wild guess..:o).So pleased you enjoyed it,their markets have so much more character, don't they?
I'm not a market person,in this country, anyway, unless it is a plant or specialist one..so it was lovely to see these..

I'll let you into a secret Sandra , I don't speak french either ..LOL... I carry my french phrase book with me everywhere .. funny thing is I understand most of what I see , but I can't understand someone speaking it ..... I have a friend who is a french teacher and even she has trouble understanding the dialects over there .. ;o)

Thank you,Grandmage,we have never actually spent any time in Marseilles itself,as it is more of a working port, but half an hours drive takes you to all these lovely places..

I love old buildings too,Clarice, and architecture...especially when someone can tell you the history of them..glad you enjoyed it,thank you..

Thanks littlelegs,it was.there are lots of places we would like to visit in France, maybe one day..

Sheila and Amy,I can see I may have to acquaint myself with the French language, but I get the drift of your comments..Lol.

Thank you,Yorkshire, wish we were there now, surely it won't be as cold as here.!

One of the nicest places we have been,Sanbaz, but we paid an arm and a leg for a coffee,on that Boulevard..the dearest we had anywhere else..,so don't think it would be viable for a longer stay..but would still go back again..

21 Jan, 2011

Thanks everyone, for your lovely comments...and the French lessons...Lol.Glad you all enjoyed it...:o))

Lovely blog Sandra, isnt it great when you get a good tour guide it makes everything more interesting, and Those Sunflowers and vegetables look wonderful must be the sunny climate that encourages such growth. could do with abit of it here! Nice picture of you with the giant planter, you would have a job bringing that back through customs lol

22 Jan, 2011

Thanks Carole, the market stalls were so enticing, they looked lovely.Laughed at your comment about the 'plant holder'..but would I be able to afford the compost, never mind the plants.! lol.

Lovely photo,s I love France we have been for the last four years driving through to Luxemburgh and Germany, its amazing how just a little French can go a long way ! but I must admit to only knowing Parli vous Englais or Combien (how much) and I can count up to 10 LOL that is to help with buying bagette,s etc; but the French do like to see you attempting to speak their language. We went last year to see Monet,s Garden at Giverny it was lovely.
We will be going again this year but we never plan where we just go where we fancy at the time.

22 Jan, 2011

Thank you Maggie,I find you can get by too, with the language,..i will never starve as long as I can say Baguette, Lol.There are a few coach tours go on short breaks, from here to Monet's garden, somewhere I would like to visit as well.I notice you live a lot higher up North than us,but it must be more relaxing ,with you having a motor home..that sounds a lovely way to travel..lucky you..:o)
