February flowers

At the end of January and the beginning of February, the weather tends to take a break from all the wind and rain. This lets the flowers survive a little better.

Jonquils start to open. These do much better than daffodils, which need a cold spell to survive. I have tried daffs, but they only last 1 or 2 years.

Aloes also start to bloom.

One of the best is Dietes grandiflora. This is very easy care as you don’t cut flower stems back after flowering as they will produce more flowers later. Seeds will self sow, so there are usually a couple of small plants to give away.

The South African bulbs are also starting to open. The first is Ferraria divaricata.

Of course the cats are spending a lot of time outside. Bobo follows me around and likes to supervise any work that is being done. Here he is in a shady part. The plant behind him is a Strelitzia nicolai.

The Strelitzia reginae is in bloom, and I have been taking photos from different angles.

Lovely to see what you have in flower, Wylie, & to hear about what will be blooming son.

Like you I tried taking photos of my Bird of Paradise but never took them front on or from the back like you've done.

Thanks for the comments.
I was walking past the Strelitzia and thought how I hadn't seen photos of it directly from the front or back, and how architectural it was.
Jonquils multiply really fast around here.

Thanks! Bobo is really special. He is very good with the neighbor's grandchild who likes to pet him. Most cats will run, but Bobo just stands there.

How lovely. I do miss our cat but shall not get another all the time a neighbour has a dog. It terrified our cat ... :o(

The people across the street from me have a Filho de São Miguel, a vicious breed with a reputation on a level with pit bulls. They leave the gate to their property open, so the dog and its mixed breed offspring roam freely. It took a call to the police to get them to restrain the dog, and their others are afraid of me.

Such a shame with these dogs ... so many incidents of attacks and sometimes fatalities in the UK by XL Bully dogs.
