A glimpse of RHS Rosemoor and then a glimpse of my garden.

This morning, under blue skies yet again, we went to Rosemoor and then came home to spend some time out in our own garden.

There were a number of beautiful Daphnes in flower and on the same one we watched a Red Admiral settle in the sun followed by a very friendly robin.

The scent from the Daphne filled the air all around and when we went into the greenhouse, the scent from the Paper Whites was overpowering!

There were some cold shadowy places there but they still looked beautiful.

At home I planted up a container so that I could have some Spring colour by the door. I worked on the flower bed which has a number of hellebores in it. I added aconites, a white windflower, crocus bulbs, iris bulbs and dwarf narcissi. The bed also has skimmia, pieris and sarococca in it. I am looking forward to the scent from that.

Not quite the standard of Rosemoor but at least it’s ‘our patch!’

Lovely blog, love the pic of the robin, Wildrose. The pic of the frosty lawned area does look beautiful, I have to agree.
Your pot looks pretty as well as your flower beds. Very cheering.

Julia, we like Rosemoor all through the year. They have an area called The Winter Garden which is truly lovely at the moment with heathers, hellebores, snowdrops and daphne plus numerous trees with fascinating bark or early blossom. In other areas are camellias and rhododendrons so there is plenty to see.
Kate, there were a lot of happy robins living there and they were so tame! A safe place to call 'home!'

Im loving that primula combo in your planter. Just what we need in mid-winter...some colour! We had a lovely day here too. I didn’t garden as I overdid it yesterday. Instead we went for a stroll around our local shops and the waterfront. Then we had tea and cake and drove home. Its lovely to be retired isn’t it?!

Oh yes but it's a shame it means we are getting older!!! Glad you had a lovely relaxing day.

Thank you for sharing. Rosemoor is the one RHS garden I've yet to visit.

I haven't visited Rosemoor either it's another one to go on the list if or when we're ever in the area ,it looks lovely as do your pots Chris ...

I have wanted to visit Rosemoor for years, one day God willing....
Loving your selection of new plants, and your pots will be a pleasure for months to come....

Hope that one day, you will all come to Rosemoor.
It is on a smaller scale than Wisley but it is such a lovely place to wander around. It is impossible for me to choose a favourite part because it is all beautifully done. It looks good in all the seasons but the colour builds up as the year moves on.

its years since I went to Rosemoor and that was in the height of summer.
I love your planting combos.

I have only been to Harlow Carr...but I would happily go back there again. Rosemoor is somewhere I might travel to while visiting Rachel in Dorset.

Lovely blog W'rose, you picked a good day despite the shady areas, thankyou for sharing, the photo's are lovely especially the one of the lake.
I'm hoping to persuade my hubby to take me to Barnsdale Gardens soon, its only approx5miles from us but I've never been in early springtime, he retired last March and is very much into taking photographs of the birds, I know there are always plenty in and around the gardens so he'll be occupied whilst I have a wander, lol....

Its all lovely. I think we sometimes appreciate a few brave flowers in early Spring more than we do the summer ones we take for granted. Rosemore looks a beautiful tranquil place, very soothing and healing.

It's somewhere I would like to visit too,Chris..so much colour both there, and also in your garden..much more than here up North ! Although it's starting to happen, and the Winter pansies, and Primula's are lovely to see..Your new container is looking pretty,as is your border...Is that an Osmanthus next to the Pieris,or a small Holly ? I could be totally wrong about either !

Your Skimmia looks really healthy, you must have the right sort of soil for that and the Pieris.

Loved your blog Chris! That butterfly was early and I love to see the robins, but unfortunately ours seems to have disappeared !
All your flowers look healthy and I also have a large Saracocca which is in a pot near the back door. I sent for a Daphne last spring but it hasn't grown much so not expecting to see any flowers this year.

Hello Rose, we have a robin that actually goes in the shed with John to get his food!!
I have bought a few primulas and polyanthus to cheer up the garden as I like to look at Spring colours. Your Daphne will be gorgeous when it has grown a little more.
xx

Lovely planting in your pot Chris 🙂. I’ve never been to Rosemoor either, but when in Devon we head to The Garden House and Keith Wiley’s wonderful Wildside.
