Wild and windswept! Today in the garden.

I have had a very busy day indoors today and just needed some fresh air…….yes, it certainly was fresh!

The sky was dark grey and the rain was drizzling and the wind was blowing in annoying little gusts!

However, the autumn colours were in sharp contrast, so rich, bright and cheerful. Please take a look – because I got a soaking doing this!!!

As you can see from this final picture, there was a downside to my exploits in the garden today. The trellis for the climbing rose was hanging off the wall! A job for tomorrow I think and not necessarily a job for me! Now where is he…………..?!

What beautiful colours. I especially like the second picture - it's a lovely combination of pattern and colour.

Lovely autumn colour you have there, I like the second picture....a most artistic shot :o)

Your photos are enjoyable to look at. I like seeing a garden in the rain, just as much as on a sunny day. There's something atmospheric about it :o)
Sorry about your trellis. I hope 'he' can do something about it soon.
It's been horrendous here. I would have got blown over in my garden yesterday lol ! and the rain was torrential ... but I still enjoy it :o)

Great colours. It pelted down here overnight, so all is soggy. But we've had sunshine this afternoon which was a treat.

Lovely colours there. I do like shots taken upwards into trees, they make such beautiful patterns.

22 Oct, 2013

I agree Stera...thanks for mentioning that...I love that shot too!

Thanks so much for taking a look and making such encouraging comments.

Good news....the trellis is fixed, and even better news, it wasn't fixed by me!!!!

You have some lovely autumn colours there, Chris and venturing out in the rain to take the pictures too ! I think there's more bad weather on the way too !

24 Oct, 2013

No rain here today, a short break from the heavy rain and wind we've been having for what seems forever. When it starts bucketing down tomorrow I'll think of your bravery in bringing us these wonderful pics:-))

Shocking weather predicted for Monday and I am 'Home alone' so I hope that no damage occurs!
I lack basic skills in DIY and in general common sense!!!

25 Oct, 2013

I agree, it will come in from the sea here, hate it at night as it is forecast, you don't know what you will find in the morning, but then can be scary during to day as well, we have no more trees to blow over anyway, last one came down last year.

25 Oct, 2013

The wind is really getting up here this evening already, dreading Monday and the damage it will leave behind. I must gather all my pots together tomorrow and try to keep them safe. Not much I can do about anything else:-(

25 Oct, 2013

Hoping for not too much damage here, but we are going to be down south for the weekend, so we shall see...

26 Oct, 2013

As I am home all by myself at the moment, I am getting quite concerned about the storm that is on its way. Only so much you can do really isn't there?

Hope none of us have any damage so fingers crossed.

I hope you will be ok, Wildrose. Not so good to be on your own. Not so good for travellers, either. Our recent house guest lives in Cardiff, is flying to Spain from Bristol on Monday, so has booked himself and family into a B&B tomorrow night near the airport in case the bridge is closed. You're right that there's not much to be done. Sit tight and batten down the hatches! (Great advice, that - what does one actually do, I wonder!)

I don't know what that expression really means either but I have tried to do it all the same!
I hope your visitor's flight takes off on time and that he leaves this rather scary weather behind him.
Here, the wind is just beginning to build up.

Lovely autumn colours although with the high winds you might have lost a great deal of it by now, the wind has died down a lot here but now its raining again, I noticed earlier the basin part on my birdbath had been knocked off the pedestal, its a heavy concrete one as well, needless to say I've left it on the ground for now, hope its not too bad for you Wildrose, its not good when on your own.....

Chris.... Lovely blog, you've got some beautiful Autumnal colours, sorry you had to get wet to show us, but thank you! What are the bushes in the 3rd,5th and 6th picture please. I love the colours of them.I've read your blogs out of order, so glad you were Ok last night, not too bad here, lots of rain though.First thing I did when I got out of bed, was to open the curtains to see if there was any damage, but none thank goodness. So many people are without power, I moaned yesterday when the oven door hinge broke, and we couldn't get back on again.Coming tomorrow to fix it!Hope the weather settles down....I don't like heavy winds!:-)

3rd and 5th pictures are of a birch tree I think but I could be wrong. It is slow growing and ornamental. The other picture is a mahonia.

Maybe someone will correct me on my first answer as I am not quite sure.

Thank you for your nice comments and I hope your oven door is now back to normal. I don't like things going wrong!!

28 Oct, 2013

Thanks Chris for the plant info.No.....it's still hanging on by one hinge, after a 2 visits.1 by a gasman, who couldn't fix it because it was an electric oven, and then a visit by an electrician, who had to order the hinges........good job I have a top oven, takes a long while to cook anything, but am managing with it!!! Friday the next visit....I'll hold my breath.

Just had two days in London. We had been down to a concert and thought we wouldn't get back last night, but by the evening the trains were running out of Euston so in the event all was easy for us. There were branches off some of the trees in Russell Square, and leaves everywhere, but we didn't actually see any real damage. Some people had it hard, though. By the time we got back to the North-West, the local weather was comparatively calm.
